The Team:

We are a Senior Lighting Team with over a century of combined, in-depth experience in digital storytelling.  We are creatively driven and focused on high end visual production across multiple genres and art styles.  We are located in Redwood City and remotely support our studios in, Vancouver, Orlando, Guildford, Gothenburg, and Shanghai. Collaborating directly with our game team partners we share a unified passion for creating amazing experiences, and industry leading visuals. Overview:

The Technical Artist acts as a bridge between the artists and engineers. They are considered part of the art team and work closely with artists, project managers, SEs and the rest of the TA team. The main areas of responsibilities include art production workflows, tools, pipelines, asset optimization/integration and shader development. TAs are expected to assume ownership over any technical issues that arise on their project and drive them to resolution. Candidates can be from an Art, Design, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science background. However, they must demonstrate a comfort level in working with both art and science.  Lighting knowledge is a plus!

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with other tech artists to design, develop, deploy, and maintain lighting tools, workflows, and pipelines to improve production efficiency
  • Develop strategies for solutions
  • Prepare assets for export to the game, ensuring that they work within technical constraints
  • Understand and communicate asset optimization to help optimize art assets so they are used efficiently but maintain visual quality
  • Create tools for artists as required
  • Work with other tech artists/engineers to identify and implement art-pipeline optimizations and to create technical benchmarks to be used in production
  • Implement technical art features with the help of the programming team
  • Offer technical support to the art team in day-by-day production issues
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Share with the other artists best-practices and new tools
  • Define and estimate tasks in a well-organized manner
  • Interact and collaborate with the key client stakeholders (Art, Programming, Production, etc.) 

 

Required Technical Skills and Experience:

  • At least 5+ years of cinematic/games production experience. The ideal candidate has completed more than 2 AAA or mobile games.
  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field is desired.
  • Highly adept at communicating with different audiences: artists, engineers, managers.
  • Proficient scripting/programming in python and Mel. C++ and/or Lua a bonus (but not required).
  • Expert knowledge of a 2D and 3D art packages: Maya/Photoshop required.
  • Deep understanding of asset optimization challenges/techniques.
  • An aptitude for problem solving, particularly as it pertains to testing and debugging technical issues
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations.
  • An avid gamer is a plus.
