We’re looking for a Technical Designer / Scripter (MTX) who will join our monetization team for Apex Legends. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will write code or script to improve the monetization aspects of the game, such as improving store menus, event structures, battle pass, and more. You should have a strong understanding of basic engineering principles, and work well with our product team to bring positive changes to our game.

What’s it like to be a Technical Designer / Scripter (MTX) at Respawn?

Day to Day - Our Technical Designers tasks include prototyping, iterating, testing, and solving problems. You will use your scripting and engineering skills extensively. Some specific opportunities in this role include a focus on improving existing Apex Legends monetization systems such as battlepass, events, store menus, as well as implementing new and upcoming features for the monetization and events team.

Collaboration - You will have the opportunity to work independently as well as with a team, as you will collaborate with your technical designer teammates, the product management team, and the game director.

What do we look for in Technical Designer (MTX) candidates?

You’ve Made Stuff You are Proud Of - What we’d love to see in your portfolio is work that you developed yourself, either professionally or on your own. We would love to see work that features your technical knowledge of coding or scripting, as well as any UI or menu work you may have done.

A Sense for UX - Although a coder or scripter by trade, you understand UX best practices that helps make sure your work enhances the experience rather than distract or detract. You have a passion for design and stay up to date with modern trends in graphics, typography, and UI - in games and other media. Ideally you are someone who has empathy for players and believes that their experience is of foremost importance.

A Spirit for Collaboration - As a member of the technical design (mtx) team, you will work closely with others within your department as well as disciplines such as art, vfx, product management, and code. Developing an amazing store and event structures is a team effort, and you will collaborate with other accomplished team members to create what works best for the game.

Ideally, you also will have...

3+ years of professional game development experience, working in game engines.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Fluency in multiple scripting and programming languages.
