What an Audio Designer does at Criterion:

Criterion considers audio to be fundamental to a great game and invests in it accordingly. Members of our team take an active role in developing exciting and immersive experiences. Working closely with other audio designers and the development team, an Audio Designer creates original content throughout the course of development for an audio experience that is cutting edge in design, rich in aesthetic, and tightly focused on gameplay.

Audio Designer overview:

  • Follow and deliver on the Audio Direction and understand how each piece fits into and supports a readable, consistent, quality soundscape, by creating assets and implementation workflows that live up to the creative and technical aspirations.
  • Participate in SFX recording sessions and actively contribute to improving workflows and processes.
  • Be an active voice and provide constructive feedback to members of the team and respond to feedback in a positive manner.
  • Work together with other disciplines to ensure a cohesive experience between Audio and other crafts.
  • Contribute with creative and technical solutions to constantly improve the audio experience in our game.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively with others.
  • Utilise your creative voice to create satisfying and original audio that will delight our players.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience as a Sound Designer working in the Games industry.
  • BA, BSc, or equivalent work experience in Sound Design, Music Production or Recording Arts.
  • In depth knowledge of audio theory and sound design practices; includes knowledge of waveform editing, equalization, compression, mixing, plug ins, etc.
  • Proficiency with audio software DAWs; such as Reaper, Nuendo, Pro Tools, Sound Forge, Cubase, Logic.
  • Proficiency with audio plug in software such as Waves, FabFilter, iZotope, Soundtoys, etc.
  • Proficiency in authoring 5.1 Surround sound mixes.
  • Experience or knowledge of audio game development tools, such as Wwise, FMOD, or other proprietary Editors.
  • Strong technical proficiency. Knowledge or experience with any visual scripting program is a plus (such as Reaktor, Max, Pure Data, UDK).
  • Commitment to continuously improving your skill set as a Sound Designer.
  • A passion for learning and sharing, seeking new ways to improve the Audio in our games. 

Please note: While music is important to us, this position will not involve any composition work.
