Position Title: Game Designer I

 As a Game Designer, you will work directly on Madden Football within EA Sports. Reporting to the Design Director. Games Designer II will maintain and balance the core and meta-game while creating and implementing design ideas and features to entertain our players. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Your role will involve creating, developing, refining, and troubleshooting entire content programs that will captivate and satisfy our players.
  • As a Game Designer II, you will have the responsibility of educating junior designers about upcoming features and how they impact content creation.
  • You will gain extensive knowledge across most systems and be able to manage and support the team with all content tools. Additionally, you will provide training and guidance to junior team members.
  • As a designer, you will be responsible for setting gameplay experience objectives and adjusting features accordingly to achieve those objectives.
  • Improvements to designs will be made based on playtests, game metrics, team input, and community feedback.
  • You will advocate for the creative vision, and represent the Design team.
  • As a valued member of our development team, you will actively contribute using collaborative frameworks that promote inclusivity and bring together diverse teams.
  • Your task is to use the available resources and time efficiently to create innovative and enjoyable experiences for players by designing effective solutions.
  • As a collaborative member of the team, you will work closely with artists, testers, economy experts, engineers, and producers to ensure a smooth project workflow from the initial design phase to the final production stage.
  • By drawing on our diverse player base and past games, you will become an expert in the game and our community. This will enable you to make and defend intelligent design choices for the future.
  • You possess the ability to identify and enhance procedures that simplify the Design team's work.
  • You assist in establishing the best practices for the team and set an example by leading. 

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of game design experience on a video game development team.
  • Ability to write detailed design documentation.
  • Technical proficiency when directly implementing design content either via scripting or database languages.
  • Champion a design and get the team excited to work on it.
  • Experience using a variety of scripting solutions to implement, tune, and bug-fix features.
  • Become proficient in multiple proprietary development tools.
  • Design and implementation experience with game features that focus on open-ended player creativity.
  • Experience working with game economies, including demonstrable knowledge of how different systems can affect a game economy.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for gaming: playing, deconstructing, and creating.
  • Knowledge of NFL Football. The players and teams will be your playground.
  • Experience with sports games as a designer or a passionate player.
  • Experience building games in Unreal, Unity, or equivalent proprietary tools.
  • Experience in visual scripting, logic trees and content implementation. 

Desirable Skills:  

  • Shipped a AAA HD title.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Comfortable with Miro, Visio, JIRA, and online collaboration suites such as Confluence.
  • Expertise with Google Sheets.

 US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

• Jersey City, NJ :
º $84,750 - $119,650
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
º $73,150 - $119,650

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
