Motion Capture Technician

EAs Vancouver-based Motion Capture Studio serves the motion capture needs for all of EAs game development teams world-wide. In our studio we capture a wide spectrum of data types – 3D scanning, virtual cinematography, performance capture and motion capture to name a few. You will be directly responsible for supporting multiple game development teams with the creation of animation content. You will help integrate motion data by using EA propriety technologies to maintain the highest quality animation possible. You will report to the Motion Capture Stage Manager and work with the animation teams in both pre production and on the live performance stage.

Motion Capture Technician:

You are the direct link to the game team in both pre-production and live production and maintains the flow on set. You will work with development teams, post production team, the production office and mocap lead in pre-production to help develop the production plan.

You will work with the Mocap Shoot Lead, who oversees preparation of the production shoot to ensure all relevant shoot details have been collected, and the studio and technology is prepared.

During production, you will drive the shoot forward by giving directions to co-ordinate the cast and crew and manage the game team’s expectations throughout the day by ensuring the studio is functioning.

Responsibilities:

Pre-Production

  • Work with development teams, producers and post production leads in pre-production to understand project scope, tech and production requirements.
  • Develop production plans and enlist support from mocap technicians, technical artists, external vendors.
  • Works with motion capture shoot leads to ensure mocap shoots are prepped before session.
  • Production session scheduling
  • Travel logistics for on location work
  • Assist with shoot prep (prop builds, talent room set up, stage set up)

Production

Lead mocap production team on implementing production plan and support the motion capture director on stage.

  • Talent Wrangling
  • Set Etiquette
  • Communications with game development teams
  • Coordinate technical troubleshooting
  • Manage shoot flow
  • Maintain data capture quality
  • Track important session information 

Post Production

  • Ensure smooth data transition from production to post production
  • Assist data wrangler in troubleshooting pipeline issues
  • Advise post production on any out of the ordinary data may arise from the shoot floor, pass along notes and session details from the shoot day.

You have:

  • 2 or more years in production experience in related entertainment industry: video games, film, TV, or theater
  • Able to work under the pressures of ‘live’ production environments
  • Believes in teamwork
  • Strong technical skills:  
    • Solid understanding of mocap technology
    • Working knowledge of imaging hardware, accessories and file formats in digital cinema and photography
    • Maya, or motion builder experience and asset not a requirement
  • Desire to be part of a great team!

 US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
º $78,500 - $119,650

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby (following 1 year of service), medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
