In collaboration with Lucasfilm, the Star Wars FPS Team is developing a new AAA FPS in the Star Wars galaxy. Inspired by classic titles like Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, our story-driven single player game is being developed from the ground up leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. We’re combining this inspiration and technology with Respawn’s pedigree for making best-in-class shooters to deliver a brand new experience our players will love.

We are seeking a Lead Lighting Artist to join our growing team. Responsible for all aspects of lighting environments and cinematics, we’re looking for an individual with an ideal blend of visual artist, technical understanding, and team leadership and mentoring capabilities. We’re creating brand new locations, characters, and creatures and our lighting team will play a key role in bringing them to life. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will establish best practices, visual quality targets, pipelines, and documentation. This role requires a mix of 

What you’ll do…

  • Work with the Art Director, Cinematics, Environment Art, and Mission Design to establish beautiful lighting that also meets our design needs.
  • Play a critical role in the recruiting efforts of the team, including screening, interviewing, final selection, and offer decisions.
  • Manage all aspects of the Lighting Team including mentoring, training, tasking, and project management.
  • Establish process, best practices, training, and documentation.
  • Work closely with Technical Art and Rendering to ensure lighting is performant and optimized.
  • Be a proactive problem solver, looking ahead to identify risks, production issues, dependencies, and scoping concerns.

Ideally, you will have…

  • 3-5+ years professional experience as a Lead Lighting Artist or Principal Lighting Artist
  • Experience working on AAA games through the full development cycle (from concept to ship) as an embedded member of a studio development team strongly preferred.
  • Portfolio of highly detailed lighting with a focus on environments, cinematics and gameplay.
  • Strong understanding of art fundamentals, composition, color, etc.
  • Strong understanding of game engine tools and pipelines such as UE4, UE5, Unity, and other proprietary tools.
  • A technical understanding of modern real time lighting technologies and their impact on performance.

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

  • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
    • $129,050 - $204,600
  • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
    • $127,850 - $204,600
  • New Jersey (depending on location e.g. Jersey City vs. Trenton):
    • $127,850 - $204,600
  • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
    • $127,850 - $189,050
  • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
    • $127,850 - $189,050

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby (following 1 year of service), medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
