The Opportunity Ahead:

Arows is made up of Motive, Full Circle and Maxis, the makers of AAA hit games such as The Sims, Star Wars Squadrons and the upcoming titles Skate and Dead Space are looking for a new team member.  We are seeking talented people and we give them an environment where they can flourish with autonomy.  We believe the product we make is as only as good as the staff we hire.  As such, when asked to help make EA successful, we also encourage a culture of support, education and collaboration.

As a Technical Director your primary function will function as a mix of an Architect, Senior Software Engineer and coach to lead a skilled team of engineers dedicated to improving the lives of developers and supporting teams.  We are a group of generalists deployed to help empower Arows to fix the hard (but fun) problems involving verification of the games we build.  This can take the form of building scalable full stack services, artificial intelligence, manipulation of large data sets or orchestration of distributed hardware meant for automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use your knowledge of software engineering concepts to design and implement tested, reusable, and modular code
  • Build a strategy that will lay foundation and framework for the future growth of our team
  • Formulate the right approach by balancing the business case and non-functional requirements against the return of investment
  • Oversee all dependencies, risks, and critical paths for the projects you oversee
  • Help create a strong technical community by developing excellent relationships with technical peers in game development teams and other groups throughout EA studios.
  • Work with other team leaders to manage change.
  • Lead, coach and mentor software engineers on the team.
  • Recruit and retain great people to the team and company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 8 years industry technical experience working on tools, automation, SaaS and/or development process improvements.
  • Experience leading technical teams
  • Experience creating system-level and architectural design and documentation
  • Change management, experience adapting/changing status quo and traversing changes with people, products, and processes.
  • Experience developing new talent.
  • Able to travel.

This role will be working with projects at studios in Vancouver and Montreal, Canada. As such, there is flexibility with where you are located.
