External Description:

EA is looking for a motivated and highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial) to handle a variety of commercial matters and transactions both collaboratively and independently. As part of the North America Publishing and Product team, this Senior Legal Counsel will serve as the primary commercial legal partner for multiple business groups within EA including, (i) EA’s core services and technology group that provides common capabilities across gaming platforms, (ii) Information Technology, and (iii) the worldwide customer experience group, which provides 24-7 support to EA’s customers. This position will also provide backup support for external development and shared in and around game technology licensing as needed. This position is based in either our Seattle, Washington office or Los Angeles, California office.

Responsibilities include:

-Draft and negotiate a wide range of complex domestic and international technology agreements, including inbound and outbound software licenses, SaaS agreements, complex professional services agreements, data protection agreements, and content development agreements.

-Provide transactional support for EA’s customer experience and support organization.

-Develop creative solutions to support business needs and objectives.

- Work with other attorneys (and non-attorney legal professionals) within the group to develop and maintain policies, training, contract templates, and guidelines to ensure legal compliance and operational efficiency.

-Provide legal advice on a wide range of legal matters in the areas of technology development, licensing, and customer service.

-Assist other senior counsel in mentoring junior legal team members and non-attorney legal professionals.

Required skills and experience:

  • B.A/B.S., J.D. degrees and bar membership with 7+ years of experience with a law firm providing services for technology clients, relevant in-house experience with companies in the technology industry, or both.
  • Significant knowledge and experience with the negotiation and preparation of a wide range of sophisticated commercial agreements including data protection and data security agreements.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with privacy issues including GDPR requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional business and legal teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with business owners.
  • Ability to work independently to manage entire contract process from initial contact, negotiation, execution.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work with minimal supervision with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively.
