Position Title: Intern General

External Description:

The Studio

Electronic Arts’ Firemonkeys Studio in Melbourne, Australia is highly regarded throughout the industry as a leader in delivering high quality, engaging games on iOS and Android.  We release new meaningful updates on a regular basis for our live mobile games such as Real Racing 3, The Sims FreePlay, Need for Speed, and many more.

The Role

We’re looking for highly talented and dedicated Junior/Intern Artists who will thrive on creating great content to meet the needs of our players on The Sims FreePlay. This is an entry level position that would give a successful applicant chance to work with industry veterans in producing AAA mobile titles for one of the biggest game publishers on the planet.

A successful applicant should demonstrate through their folio an interest in creating quality hand painted assets & environments, preferably also demonstrating a keen eye and interest in both product design and real-world architecture.

We are keen to review any folio that demonstrates strong understanding of lighting principles across multiple materials over a folio demonstrating a deep understanding of technical software tools.

  • Create visually impressive memory efficient textures and geometry for mobile devices to the standards set by the Lead Artist.
  • Consistently demonstrate quality and speed through production of in-game assets.
  • Work effectively with Animators, Engineers and Designers to resolve bugs and improve the overall game experience.
  • Work within a team and communicate effectively with Senior/Lead Artists to develop skills.

Skills and experience

  • A demonstrated artistic ability through a presented folio that shows an interest in low-poly hand painted models and textures.
  • A demonstrated ability to work within a team (group projects).
  • A demonstrated understanding of core fundamentals of 3D modelling packages like Maya or 3ds Max.
  • A good understanding through presentation of a folio of abilities in hand painting and compositing game textures using various Photoshop techniques.
  • Any general and relevant experience that demonstrates graphic design skills via Illustrator or compositional understanding through photography would also be well received.
