Role overview:

Our Los Angeles-based Motion Capture Studio serves the motion capture needs for all of EA’s game development teams worldwide. The Motion Capture Supervisor/Lead is directly responsible for the acquisition of motion capture data for game development with extensive experience capturing likeness and animation for cinematics.

You have strong technical skills and advanced knowledge of motion capture hardware, software, data acquisition, tracking, Realtime, and post processing pipelines. You will lead the pipeline from pre-production to delivery, and will ensure the motion capture team performs their tasks with excellence and achieve project goals. You will report to the Studio Manager.

This is an 18-month contract, based onsite at the Chatsworth studio.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead an accomplished team of technical experts in a motion capture production environment.

  • Manage performance and motion capture services involved in the production of digital characters and cinematic animation.

  • Review project plans to understand motion capture requirements and oversee development of production plans to ensure all requirements are met.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with new and existing game development teams, production, post-production and technical leads to maintain the highest levels of quality to meet motion capture visual benchmarks.

  • Lead Shoot Supervisors during pre-production and capture sessions.

  • Use EA proprietary technologies to maintain the highest quality data possible. 

  • Contribute to the development of proprietary tools, pipelines and the evolution of current technologies.

  • Supervise maintenance of all motion capture production hardware and software systems to meet the demands of projects.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in motion capture technology, industry trends and future client needs for studio growth and upgrades.

  • Establish, refine and document production processes, protocols and workflows and identify improvement opportunities. 

  • Support departmental crew scheduling to ensure project scoping and workload leveling.

  • Support department budget planning and management of hardware purchases.

  • Help recruit new crew.

  • Support studio leadership with project progress reports, risk identification and mitigation recommendations.

  • Manage team health through inclusiveness and use of team’s experience.

  • Promote a culture of growth, collaboration and mentorship.

  • Ensure team goals are aligned with the studio goals and values as directed by studio leadership.

Requirements:

  • You have 10+ years professional experience in Motion Capture and Cinematics in Videogames/TV/Film.

  • You can demonstrate a successful track record in supervising motion capture production.

  • You are highly proficient in operating and troubleshooting optical and facial motion capture systems.

  • You have technical knowledge of real-time animation retargeting and motion capture software, such as Motion Builder and Unreal Engine.

  • You have a strong technical aptitude with in-depth knowledge of digital production hardware, signal flow and post production workflows for technologies used in digital character creation. 

  • You have a passion for emerging motion capture technologies and creating new production pipelines. 

  • You have experience in live production crew supervision and can demonstrate building a high-performing team delivering high-quality results.

 

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.


BASE SALARY RANGES

• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
º $103,200 - $145,600 USD Annually

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to temporary full-time employees scheduled to work full time.
