Our Motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. Let's say that again—iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero.

Our passion has taken us from imagining dogfighter pilots in Star Wars™: Squadrons to re-creating Isaac Clarke onboard the Ishimura in Dead Space™. Currently, we're working on two exciting projects, an original Iron Man™ action-adventure game and what's coming next for Battlefield™.

We believe in sharing our passion with our community and each other, fostering an inclusive culture, and nurturing a growth mindset. Although our approach may seem simple, it leads us to create the best work of our careers, bringing unique and immersive experiences to our players.

Motive is looking for a Technical Art Director who is passionate about delivering high quality tools and processes to support the artistic work of the Battlefield Team at Motive. You will lead the technical art team at Motive, providing technical direction, guidance and mentorship to the technical artists. As a Technical Art Director, you will work with other discipline leaders within the studio, such as code, art, animation, game design, and audio and be the technical advocate for the art teams. You will also partner with other technical art leaders across the wider Battlefield franchise family to guide the development of the Battlefield franchise from the perspective of the Technical Art discipline.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and contribute to long-term vision for technical art and art sustainability across the Battlefield franchise at Motive.
  • Organize and shepherd departmental research and solutions towards performance and quality.
  • Work across the Battlefield franchise to help break down existing processes and pipelines, identifying improvements, defining goals, build consensus around the ideas and then execute on the plan.
  • Collaborate with the production team to maintain the schedule and priorities of the team.
  • Represent artists in technical prioritization discussions.
  • Work together with other departments to help lead technology and tool development across the title.
  • Act as a conduit between the art and programming teams.
  • Advocate for the technical art team at the team leadership level.
  • Stay current in latest technologies and research in your field to ensure our tools and pipelines remain cutting edge.
  • Identify strategic art resource needs and promote staffing for all technical art roles on the team.
  • Mentor, guide, and lead tech artists, providing examples and arranging training as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of industry experience in technical art (or hands on in a related art discipline).
  • Shipped AAA titles in this or a related role.
  • Demonstrable expertise in technical and artistic direction, and in the tasks required of technical artists.
  • Multiple years experience leading team of technical artists.
  • Excellent communicator who can take feedback and give direction to a team.
  • Collaborative, self-motivated, and effective time-management skills.
  • Experience working with external development teams.
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations.
  • Passion for making and playing games.
