Job Responsibilities:

Maxis is looking for an accomplished engineer that can help us bring the next wave of simulation features to life. This engineer will work with an experienced team that has collectively built almost all Maxis games in the past two decades. This engineer will work with multiple designers and engineers prototyping and shipping different features that expand the gameplay possibilities of Sims games. Most of the work will be done in C#, with the front-end being developed in WPF.

Reporting to a Development Director, as a Tools Engineer, you will:

  • Build tools that help create and manipulate a very large number of game tuning and assets that assemble to create rich player facing features.
  • Implement developer facing editors that provide high impact visualization to manipulate game tuning and assets e.g. state machine editor, behavior tree editor, expression editor in C# and WPF.
  • Work with the other game engineers and designers to implement a data-driven simulation system to author player facing behaviors in Unreal and C++.
  • Author technical design documents detailing software requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years experience in a hands-on development role.
  • 1.5+ years experience building tools or applications in C# and WPF.
  • Demonstrated technical abilities and experience developing systems in large code bases written in C# and C++.
  • Experience with Windows platform and development tools.
  • Experience building tools or applications that have a medium to large user base and that are used to manipulate complex or large amounts of data.
  • Experience developing for large-scale live products. Products that are continuously updated to provide improved user experiences or expanded feature sets.
  • Experience working in highly collaborative environments with diverse roles beyond engineering such as design, production, art and product management.
  • Demonstrated user-first mentality and willingness to work through technical limitations to provide the best user experience possible.
  • Strong communication skills.

Bonus

  • Experience building and shipping AAA games in Unreal Engine.
  • Experience building tools and plugins for Unreal or Unity Engines.
  • Experience developing cross-platform games, tools, or applications e.g. for Mac, Console, Mobile.
  • Experience working in large data-driven games or applications.
  • Experience using static and performance analysis tools to profile and optimize the performance of C# desktop applications.
  • Experience working with automated testing, unit testing, data and asset pipelines, and configuration management processes.
  • Experience building features for games or applications that support a collaborative User Generated Content community.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.


BASE SALARY RANGES

• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
º $114,200 - $166,200 USD Annually
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
º $99,900 - $166,200 USD Annually
• Jersey City, NJ :
º $131,600 - $168,400 USD Annually
• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
º $99,900 - $141,800 USD Annually
• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
º $99,900 - $168,400 USD Annually
• British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
º $77,600 - $130,500 CAN Annually

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
