Game Design Intern

As a Design Intern on The Sims 4, you will become part of our team for the summer, creating incredible experiences for our players. You will gain experience working with a team of enthusiastic industry craftspeople from all walks of life. You will have the opportunity to use your passion and knowledge to design and create player-first experiences that will surprise and delight millions of Simmers around the world.

What you'll do…

  • Be involved in designing, implementing and tuning features to meet the goals set for the gameplay experience.
  • Iterate on designs based on internal and external playtests, game metrics, team input and community feedback.
  • Participate in brainstorming, writing designs and providing feedback to other designers.
  • Conduct subject matter research relating to the design objectives in an effort to ensure the authenticity of the experience.
  • Be a positive influence on the entire team and, as a designer, evangelize the ultimate promise to deliver fun.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to keep an open mind to coworker's ideas, incorporating suggestions where applicable.
  • Communicate and collaborate with cross functional disciplines, including artists, animators, modelers, engineers and producers.
  • Contribute to a project from initial design to final production.

Ideally, you will have...

  • Familiarity with one or more scripting or programming languages.
  • Passion for making and playing games, especially sand-box and simulation games.
  • Experience making your own games or mods.
  • The ability to describe what makes a particular game system good or bad and detail how to improve it.
  • The awareness to self-critique and accept outside critique. The more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for our players.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the hourly pay ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, degree type (e.g. Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD), what stage you are in your degree journey (i.e. freshman, sophomore, etc.), qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

HOURLY PAY RANGES

• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):

º $21 - $34

The hourly pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including 80 hours per year of sick time (prorated based on scheduled hours per week if less than full-time), 16 paid company holidays per year, medical insurance, and 401(k). Interns in California are also eligible for Voluntary Disability Insurance.
