Battlefield Seattle is focused on building rich, exciting stories with memorable characters and powerful experiences all in the Battlefield universe. We are building a new studio in the Seattle area composed of leaders and talent with a vast array of AAA game dev experience. As we assemble our diverse team, all who have a voice in making great games together, we're looking for a healthy mixture of tempered veterans and young passionate individuals eager to make a difference.

Role Overview: Reporting to the Design Director, you are a Lead Gameplay Designer who will pilot the game's vision for our game's PvE gameplay needs and functionality. You will lead a team of designers to develop detailed designs for game characters, rules, narrative integration, gameplay mechanics, and HUD/UI interfaces.

You are an expert in creating gameplay experiences that are both entertaining and technically sound. You will guide the team to develop prototypes for gameplay designs, including systems design and features that enhance the player experience and engagement.

You will lead the design team to build game design concepts, and collaborate with multiple partners for approval of design. You will engage with technical and creative leads to align goals for design.

You will have the chance to develop your skills on one of the most anticipated AAA games. We are focusing on high-quality gameplay and do our best to offer players amazing gameplay experiences.

 

Responsibilities: we believe you have the following:

  • Can envision fun gameplay experiences that are built upon and hold true to the foundational gameplay mechanics of Battlefield.
  • Will design, prototype, script, and polish game systems and features.
  • Work with gameplay programmers on prototyping and implementing gameplay functionality and combat systems, and maintain the gameplay experience at the highest possible quality.
  • Conduct important reviews of the game throughout production.
  • Provide detailed feedback on direction and ideas for ways to improve the core gameplay experience.
  • Recommend solutions for resolving risks in design challenges for development.
  • Refine game balance by analyzing and modifying mechanics, level progression and mission targets.
  • Collaborate with technical leads to refine game design for implementation feasibility.
  • Resolve challenging game design problems that hinder the progress of the project.
  • Review game designs to provide regular feedback to the design team.

 

Qualifications: we believe you are comfortable and have experience working with:

  • Shipped at least one AAA single player title.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a leadership, directorship, or team management role on a AAA project.
  • Experience creating compelling gameplay mechanics in AAA games.
  • Understand programming/scripting in game design and experience with game editors and game design tools.
  • Familiarity and understanding of the Battlefield franchise and narrative PvE games.
