Position Title: Quality Designer I

External Description:

The Quality Designer role is a versatile position with many areas of focus and responsibilities. They are the gatekeepers of quality, understanding the game design, and ensuring its features are verified through various methods, ensuring the quality of the game lives up to our players' expectations. This position will require you to provide oversight of our quality processes and establish best practices for our QV family together with our leadership team. You will also need an in-depth understanding of the technical structure of games, how to apply new testing methodologies and be able to speak to what tools will be the most effective. Above all, a Quality Designer must demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the industry, including the different platforms, game styles, and genres to ensure the team is focused on providing the strongest end-to-end coverage and experience for EA's players, and to help us support its commitment to putting Players First.

UFC QV is a passionate team of driven problem solvers, who work in a collaborative environment with a team of experienced professionals committed to players first. The team has developed many games in the UFC Franchise, and fan favourites like Fight Night Champion, Fight Night Round 4 and SSX over their long history at EA.

Note that a Quality Designer may also be known as Quality Analyst, Quality Specialist, Quality Assurance Lead, or Test Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end test plan ownership of an area of game features. Test plan creation through execution. A subject matter expert.
  • Lead a group of testers (contract and off-site) to help strategize and solve complex test problems – defining test expectations, priorities, and day to day activities. Utilize data such as coverage, yield, and risk to direct effort.
  • Work in a Leadership group of other Quality Designers and Development Directors, communicating results from test execution, escalating risks as they emerge, and contributing to project level discussions
  • Partner with members of the development, production, and design teams to help us promote a higher quality player experience through tasks such as feature planning, analyzing internal data/player data, and feature/design reviews.
  • Align on testing requirements at a strategy level, as well as per milestone and deliverable.
  • Lead feature reviews with development and production teams
  • Define and measure feature quality through multiple review processes
  • Report progress and status with appropriate managers and other team members.

Requirements:

  • Multiple years working in a software testing or analyst role
  • Part of a team that has shipped a complete product from concept to launch
  • 3+ years of experience working in an upstream/embedded Quality Verification model
  • Excellent knowledge of software testing techniques and the software testing lifecycle
  • Plan, execute and report on tasks
  • 3+ years of experience working in an agile/scrum software development environment
  • 3+ years of experience partnering with team members in Design, Art and development from concept to launch
  • 3+ years of experience writing test documentation - test cases, test plans, feature bibles, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with tools used to enter and report on defects e.g. JIRA
  • A strong ability to interpret & use data visualizations to provide relevant insights
  • Effective at summarizing findings and outcomes to product leaders
  • 3+ years of experience with the use of Automation and Tools for testing
  • 3+ years of experience using Data to test efficiently

Desirable:

  • Experience with distributed development, coordinating and directing the tasks of staff in off-site locations
  • Knowledgeable with JIRA/JaaS
  • Experience as a user of PowerBI reports
