Position Title: Sr Game Designer

External Description:

BioWare creates games focused on rich stories, unforgettable characters and vast worlds. It operates primarily out of Edmonton (Alberta, CAN) and Austin (Texas, USA) creating some of the world's most critically acclaimed titles since 1995. The studio is working on future game experiences for the Mass Effect™ franchise, one of the highest rated video game series of all time, and the Dragon Age™ franchise, whose latest entry was the 2014 Game of the Year. We are also working on announced projects Star Wars™ The Old Republic™, a story-driven massively multiplayer online game, and Anthem™, a co-operative Action-RPG set in a new and mysterious world.

Responsibilities:

  • You will:
  • Work under a Senior Technical Designer direction to create reusable content pieces used by our Design team to create mission content
  • Develop high-quality content experiences and tools for the design teams
  • Communicate requests and issues to the Technical Design team
  • Communicate with Design team on best practices using Technical Design assets and their status
  • Collaborate with all other departments on design needs with a focus on support with programming, art, audio, and animation departments
  • Collaborate with production on scheduling and identify dependencies
  • Work with other Technical Designers on best practices and training materials for the Design teams

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience as a Technical Designer on game projects
  • Demonstrate an understanding of design principles and the workflows needed to achieve them.
  • Experience working with logic structures with a focus on reuse and modularity
  • Come up with interesting and original creative ideas
  • Experience working with visual scripting languages such as Unreal Blueprint
  • A working knowledge of standard industry game engines and design tool sets
  • Understanding of action and RPG gameplay mechanics
  • Collaborating with others to achieve a design.
  • Some experience with a scripting language or coding language is an asset
