Position Title: Head of Experience Design

External Description:

Maxis is looking for an innovative and collaborative Senior Director, User Generated Experiences (UGC), to lead our ongoing and ambitious efforts to support our players' creativity. This forward-thinking leader will report directly to the VP/GM of Maxis and The Sims Franchise to build a player-friendly and robust creator ecosystem.

You will benefit from prior experience with product management of consumer tech, close collaboration with or leadership of technical teams, building / managing external partnerships, a variety of business models, building something from scratch, learning from failures, lean startup-inspired development, navigating matrixed corporate environments, creator ecosystems and user-generated content, and experience in the games industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • TLDR: Figure out what needs to be done, and do it (with lots of collaboration and iteration).
  • Refine the long-term UGC strategy for The Sims, in partnership with franchise leadership teams and EA stakeholders, including brand management, engineering, community, legal, and finance.
  • Leverage research, partnership and focused experiments to iteratively execute against this strategy
  • Partner with brand management and consumer insights to identify emerging trends and understand how they impact our UGC opportunity.
  • Define, build and lead a new organization in a distributed environment.
  • Present to executive leadership and partners

YEAR 1 SUCCESS:

  • Articulate a multi-year strategy and business case for UGC that serves our players, creators, and our business.
  • Define key internal stakeholders and align with title leadership teams on ownership and contributions.
  • Refresh our product and partnership roadmap, including tools, partnerships, and GTM strategies.
  • Pursue initial proof points and market tests to validate our UGC strategy.
  • Define roles for your leadership team and present a long-term staffing plan.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • You can see the forest for the trees: you focus on the bigger picture, but can dive into the details.
  • 10 years of extensive experience working with technical teams and products
  • 5 years of direct management experience of small teams
  • Proven success in a matrixed environment, communicating effectively and achieving buy-in through influence.
