Position Title: Principal Engineer

External Description:

Principal Engineer - Apex Core Engineering Team

The Apex Core Engineering team is a group of Principal Engineers who solve complex technical challenges, create long term technical roadmaps, and roll up their sleeves to untangle difficult and thorny pieces of code. This team is responsible for major systems refactoring, removing bit rot and cruft, and representing the engineering organization in high level technical discussions with other disciplines. The Core Team is the team ultimately responsible for the usability and performance of the Apex Code Base. The Apex Core Engineering team also acts as mentors and thought leaders around the Apex Engineering Team's best practices and processes, and constantly strives to improve the way we work.

As a member of the Apex Core Team, you will be fearless about jumping in and solving hard problems, either by directly implementing code changes, or partnering with teams to improve processes and make sure changes are implemented. You will help define the best practices of the Apex Core Team itself and work with the other members of this team to build out a strong team culture focused on the improvement of Apex systems. As a member of this technical team you will have broad gaming knowledge with the ability to dig deep enough into any engineering discipline as the need arises, to challenge architecture and ensure the best technical path forward in a role that is equal parts long term architecting, and short term implementation.

Responsibilities

• Help establish and execute the vision of the Apex Core Team
• Act as a Technical Leader and raise the bar on technical discussion and partnership for the
• engineering organization.
• Be a strong voice in creating the long-term technical roadmap for Apex Legends as pertains to major Engineering systems, tech debt, and performance.
• Proactively identify issues and fix difficult bugs as an individual contributor
• Help build out strong best practices and performance metrics, using tools such as SLAs and OKRs while seeking continual improvement of the Live Game
• Be an advocate for Respawn's Company Culture and Apex's Engineering Team Culture

Requirements

• Expert Level C++ Experience (10+ years)
• 5+ Years prior Architecture/System Design Experience
• Experience working on multiple AAA games, including Live Service Games
• Experience working with large code bases and long range technical planning
• Console Experience a C++
