Senior Software Engineer – Gameplay (Narrative)

Finding great talent and supporting our developers to maximize success is central to our philosophy. This is the principle behind our newly formed Seattle Studio focusing on open-world action-adventure games and pioneering next-generation emergent storytelling. Join us and pursue your passion for creating high-quality, groundbreaking games that empower players to create their own incredible stories of heroic adventure. Help form the foundation of our creative, diverse and inclusive team as we embark on this exciting journey!

We are looking for an accomplished Senior Software Engineer with a passion for engaging experiences to help us realize our vision of a game that favors open-ended systems over tightly scripted moments, where players create their own stories through their interactions with the game. This engineer's primary role will be to work with our design team on our new Narrative and Dialog Systems, attempting to pursue uncharted territory in the industry. This narrative system also needs to accommodate the procedural and systemic nature of our game. This engineer will have the support of both a lead for technical guidance and a manager to ensure professional growth and well-being. And as member of our close, collaborative team, your influence will span as much of our codebase and design as your skills and interests dictate.

Responsibilities:

  • Help identify requirements, risks, and participate in laying the foundation of a new type of experience powered by our Player-Driven Narrative design.
  • Work with a mix of technical and less technical team members to establish requirements
  • Work with leadership and production on accurate scheduling
  • Design, author, refine and maintain your systems to meet all functional, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Support systems with documentation and tooling for debugging, automation and testing
  • Work with QA and technical leadership to ensure stability and robustness of your systems
  • Build and use your skillset to support those around you by working with your peers through impromptu conversations, technical discussions and code reviews
  • Explore new areas and contribute to essential feedback in analyzing new ideas, technologies and practices

Qualifications:

  • Eager collaborator with both engineers and content creators
  • Experience with Narrative systems, or shipping large gameplay systems
  • Strive for excellence in both your individual contributions and the quality of the game
  • Appreciation for robust, maintainable and readable code
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of professional C/C++ experience

We encourage you to apply, even if you don't match every qualification listed above. Let us know why this role appeals to you, why you will be great, what unique perspectives you will bring, and which requirements will challenge you to grow.
