The Challenge Ahead

How will Big Data push the boundaries of animation realism and bring our characters to life as never before seen in games? We are looking for a passionate Lead Data Engineer to help us find out.

With experience architecting large-scale, complex, cloud-native systems you love tackling tough cutting-edge problems and taking ownership. In this role you will design, build, and deploy, brand new pipelines and frameworks that store, index, analyze, and serve huge amounts of data to be used by machine learning researchers and artists across EA. 

Team Overview:

We are a cross-functional, applied R&D team, strategically positioned in EA to drive and disrupt the future of character animation technology. We are a self-motivated, collaborative team, empowered to constantly explore and leverage the latest innovations across the fields of animation, rigging, physics, and machine learning. Our technology has been used to create next-generation gameplay realism across EA titles such as FIFA, Madden, NHL, UFC, Battlefield, and many others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, build and maintain robust and scalable animation data ingestion and transformation pipelines
  • Work with DevOps team to define data representation and storage solutions for raw and processed animation data, including automated and user-driven annotations
  • Design, build and maintain robust and scalable communication frameworks between services that consume and manipulate animation data
  • Work with ML engineers to support automation, scaling and testing of ML processes and models
  • Assess and recommend available and new big data technologies
  • Suggest strategies to improve our data quality and development process
  • Design dataflow and processes to minimize compute and storage cost
  • Ability to think and solve complex data engineering problems in maintainable and scalable fashion

Required Technical Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience
  • Experience in data warehousing or ETL experience developing enterprise data workflows
  • Solid python knowledge, including numpy, pandas, dask
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure
  • Experience with Docker
  • Database design and development experience with SQL or NoSQL technologies
  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • Experience with source control and CI/CD

Desirable Skills and Expertise:

  • Some familiarity with machine learning, and statistical approaches to data analysis
  • Web full stack development technologies
  • Passionate about gaming and the industry
