Position Title: Manager I, Accounting

External Description:

Corporate accounting’s mission is to create shareholder value through integrity, leadership and business partnership.  The department’s primary responsibility is to prepare, analyze and report the worldwide consolidated financial statements to senior management and to shareholders through press releases and earnings calls.  Furthermore, departmental responsibilities include but are not limited to accounting consultation to internal business partners, assisting with acquisitions, system improvements and other special projects.

Key responsibilities

The Manager, Accounting & Reporting position serves as a key member within the North American Controllership team responsible for the following: General Ledger close for Canada, Month-end close for US entities (select areas), Balance Sheet Reporting at a NA & Global level (select areas), NA Foreign Exchange Forecasting & Reporting, and Projects (as assigned).

This role seeks to deliver on each of the areas below:

Accounting

  • General Ledger & Month-end Close – Canada and US entities (select areas):
    • Responsible for the supervision and development of a team of 3 people
    • Regular partnership with HYD GL, to help foster an integrated team capable of generating efficiencies, that benefit NA Controllership
    • Researches and evaluates accounting estimates and material non-standard transactions (tax credits, new leases or modifications, CIP etc…)
    • Defines deadlines for inputs to close related GLs within corporate dates
    • Monthly, reviews journal entry highlights of the Hyderabad “HYD” team
    • Reviews and approves journal entries of direct reports exceeding $100k
    • Defines and evaluates results of key SOX and other close controls
    • Review and approves high-risk reconciliations in Cadency 
  • Contract Review & FXIC Oversight
    • Performs review for tax credit (> $1m) and EA Studios R&D related agreements (>$3m) in EA Inc.
    • Performs review on all other material contractual agreements pertaining to Canadian entities to assess accounting recognition & disclosure requirements
    • Corporate Accounting SME to support the review and accurate recording of all FXIC transactions on a consistent basis 
  • Canada Tax Business Partnership
    • Manages delivery of annual schedules to support statutory tax filings
    • Annual review of PST self-assessment on Service Fee Study changes
    • Supports audits pertaining to GST/HST, PST, or corporate income taxes
    • Partners to collect up-to-date info for tax credit estimates 
  • Treasury Partnership
    • Manages the delivery of annual Property Insurance reports for NA
    • Quarterly review of the Bank Inventory Audit report for NA

Reporting

  • North America Balance Sheet
    • Monthly review of explanations and analyses over material variances
    • Monthly review of supplementary schedules (Cash, ICO, AP, Tax Credits, FA, Hedging) to support our Monthly Analytical BS Review
    • Annually, formulates and leads discussion of select areas at our NA BSR 
  • Global Balance Sheet
    • Monthly review, analysis, and presentation of select areas (FA/CIP, Tax Credits, FX Hedging) 

NA FX Forecasting and Reporting 

  • NA Forecasts
    • Review of FX forecast estimates and updates for 8 currencies
    • Integrates transactions from FXIC process that captures FX exposures
    • Capable of evaluating changes to business processes that may result in an FX exposure for NA
    • Reviews the development fee computation, prefunding requirements, and USD cash requirements for the Canadian entities
  • Reporting
    • Reviews the monthly bridge report to ensure unidentified FX exposures are explained and evaluates the need for preventative controls

Technical skills and experience

  • Requires bachelor’s degree and one of the following is a plus; accounting certification, finance certification or equivalent
  • 5+ years relevant financial/systems experience
  • Thorough knowledge of financial systems and data-flows between operations and finance
  • Strong leadership, communication, partnership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting
  • Previous supervisory / team management experience
  • Project management experience; demonstrated ability to recommend, scope, develop, manage and drive projects to successful completion
  • Experience with EA financial systems (Oracle/HFM/Power BI) a plus
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
