Principal Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Senior role as an Individual Contributor to the Apex Legends engine
  • Maintaining and extending existing major engine subsystems, including associated pipelines and tools
  • Owning features from conception to requirements to design to implementation
  • Fixing bugs throughout the engine, tools and pipelines
  • Optimizing code and data to improve both memory consumption and execution speed.
  • Work closely with other engineers to understand and solve complex architectural issues
  • Work with EA Central Tech, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to integrate their systems into Apex Legends
  • Work closely with all disciplines to gather requirements, triage and prioritize requests
  • Custodian of architecture
  • Source of knowledge and experience for other team members
  • You will report to the Engine Technical Director

Requirements

  • Passion for making and playing games
  • Solid C/C++ skills. 10+ years
  • Contributed to significant engine subsystems on modern multithreaded game engine
  • Solid debugging skills; happy working in assembler in a debugger
  • Experience integrating complex SDKs into large engines with multiple moving pieces.

Nice to Have

  • Shipped at least two AAA titles
  • Degree - Bachelor's CS/Math or higher preferred
  • Engineering experience working with consoles (Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft)
  • Engineering experience working with Windows PC (Microsoft/Steam/Origin)
  • Solid foundation in TCP and UDP networking, game replication systems
  • Experience with C#, Python or other scripting languages
