What does a Technical Artist do?

As a Technical Artist, you will report to Frostbite's Creative Director, as a part of the Frostbite content example team. As a member of this team, you'll help make our development process more creator-centric by serving as a link between engineers and game creators.

What we're looking for:

You are a Technical Artist with a passion for Cinematic storytelling and camera systems for video games. You love taking on the technical challenges of cinematic tools and finding new and improved ways of delivering story through gameplay. You understand the challenges of real-time camera systems, their requirements for gameplay and cinematic experiences. Your passion and expertise will directly contribute to and push the boundaries of the newest tools and workflows that Frostbite releases to game teams.

You will:

  • Use your technical and artistic expertise with cameras and cinematic tools to guide Frostbites continued development and improvement of its cinematic systems.
  • You will collaborate directly with product managers and engineers to improve the usability of content workflows and help prioritize the design of new features.
  • You will validate that new development meets usability and functionality requirements.
  • You will work with a team of technical artists to build tech examples, demos and create documentation and training materials to help educate the Frostbite community and broadcast Frostbite's capabilities.
  • You will collaborate and advise on cinematic tools, workflows and best practices with Technical Artists and Designers across all of EA studios using Frostbite.

You will need:

  • Experience with industry standard tools, Maya, Motionbuilder, and Premiere
  • Experience with cinematic and game play camera systems and solutions
  • Experience with game engine editors, real-time engine cinematic tools and pipelines
  • Passion for cinematography and storytelling in game development
  • Experience creating cinematic events in-engine and cut scenes
  • Shipped AAA games or prior work in television and film

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in node based visual programming
  • Experience with animation, animation tools and systems.
  • Experience teaching or training others in the skills of cinematics tools and timeline editors
  • Love of learning, experimenting with new ideas and discovering ways to improve production workflows
  • You love a good challenge and aren't afraid to address technical issues you don't know how to solve
