Server Gameplay Engineer

We are looking for a talented Server Gameplay Engineer to join an experienced team of developers working on an exciting new mobile game. This is an opportunity for you to join a team of veterans and collaborate with Unity developers, technical artists, and game designers to craft the vision and execution of a compelling, creative, and immersive experience.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing backend online services and features that are reliable and scale to be used by millions of players
  • Lead technical direction with a data driven mindset
  • Optimize code & memory for high performance and low latency
  • Scope out tasks and systems, looking for future improvements
  • Help establish best practices for game system implementation
  • Write technical designs based on gathered requirements
  • Follow and drive high standards around development, code reviews, and testing
  • Work in a distributed team environment with engineers, designers, and producers

Your background and who you are

  • BS in Computer Science (or a related major) or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience and 2+ of those years in gaming or related role
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL), web servers (e.g. Apache)
  • Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (e.g. Typescript) and frameworks (e.g. Node.js)
  • Professional development experience with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud, or similar services
  • Experience building game backend services at large scale

Great to have

  • Experience on one or more successfully-published game titles
  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • Experience with Spanner
  • Experience with Unity and C#
  • Experience with gRPC and Protobufs
  • Avid gamer with a passion for creating top-quality games
  • 4x and strategy genre experience
