Position Title: Software Engineer III

External Description:

We are EA

We entertain millions of people across the globe with the most amazing and immersive interactive software in the industry. But making games is hard work. That's why we employ the most creative, passionate people in the industry.

The Build Farm Engineer Role

This position, with the title of Software Engineer, is in the Frostbite Quality - Build Farm team and reports to the Engineering Manager. Frostbite is the engine that powers EA's games like Battlefield, FIFA and Need for Speed, and through our unique development process we aim to produce a functional, reliable, usable and high-end product for our game developers.

The Build Farm team provides the infrastructure and services required by Frostbite's CI, validating hundreds of code changes every day. In our team, you will help develop the global infrastructure of the farm, on-premise and in the cloud. You will set up build and test automation on multiple games, platforms and prototype hardware. You will determine what data we need to make decisions, and the monitoring to reduce manual intervention to a minimum. You will be a superuser of git, Perforce, Jenkins, cloud and open source. You will learn multiple technologies and will be trusted as a domain expert on many new areas. Working with Frostbite software, quality, and site reliability engineers, you will make efficient development workflows possible. You will turn complex, loosely-defined problems into solutions that are reliable, scalable and secure. You will also share code and best practices with engineers across EA.

As a member the larger Frostbite Quality & Development Services organization, you will belong to a globally distributed team focused on delivering shipping quality at scale, with development centers in Stockholm (Sweden), Vancouver (Canada), Bucharest (Romania) and Guildford (UK), to name a few.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and operate the tech stack for Frostbite's CI.
  • Build a complex business-critical production system used by hundreds of developers every day.
  • Lead projects to grow and evolve our multi-platform infrastructure, using industry-leading patterns and technologies.
  • Develop provisioning, monitoring and recovery systems, to reduce the time spent on support.
  • Partner with Frostbite teams to ensure their development and release requirements are fulfilled.
  • Instrument, process and provide the data to motivate your decisions.
  • Work with people from around the world - we're a global team.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with DevOps, SRE or CI software and practices.
  • Scripting/programming experience.
  • Experience with architecture, system design and dimensioning of large distributed systems, including cloud.
  • T-shape set of skills, combining depth in some areas with wide knowledge across a field.
  • Can-do predisposition, eager to try out new technologies and solutions, either open-source or internal.
  • Collaboration with local and remote teams, sharing knowledge and responsibilities.
  • A Computing degree or equivalent professional experience (4 or more years).
  • As we're an international team who communicate in English, you'll need to be comfortable talking and writing about technical details in English.

What tech are we using?

Although it is not required to have experience in our tech, candidates often find it helpful to know what we are using. This is not an exhaustive list and this changes over time as we find better solutions.

  • Windows 10, MacOS, Ubuntu, Debian.
  • Jenkins CI.

  • Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and Azure.
  • Ansible, Chef; Packer; Artifactory, Chocolatey and NuGet.
