We entertain millions of people across the globe with the most amazing and immersive interactive software in the industry. But making games is hard work. That's why we employ the most creative, passionate people in the industry.

The Build Farm Engineer Role

This position, with the title of Software Engineer, is part of the Frostbite Quality - Build Farm team and reports to the Engineering Manager. Frostbite is the engine that powers EA's games: award-winning titles like Battlefield, FIFA, Dragon Age and Need for Speed all harness the power of Frostbite to achieve outstanding visuals and immersive gameplay.

You will set up and debug build and test automation on multiple games, platforms, and even prototype hardware. You will develop monitoring systems to reduce manual intervention to a minimum. You will turn complex problems into reliable, scalable and secure solutions. You will be a superuser of git, Perforce, Jenkins, VMware, cloud and open source. Working with software, quality, and systems Engineers, you will make efficient development workflows possible. You will share your code and best practices with DevOps engineers across EA.

We're a small team with a great deal of trust, which means that you'll learn multiple technologies, and will become the domain expert in many new areas for Frostbite.

As a member the larger Frostbite Quality & Development Services team, you will belong to a globally distributed team with development centers in Stockholm (Sweden), Vancouver (Canada), Bucharest (Romania) and Guildford (UK), to name a few.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and operate the tech stack for Frostbite's CI.

  • Ensure jobs are reliable and fast across branches and platforms.
  • Develop monitoring, recovery and other supporting systems, to reduce the time spent on support.
  • Diagnose and fix problems in complex systems.
  • Partner with Frostbite engineers to ensure their development and validation requirements are fulfilled, e.g. ensure fast feedback and relevant error messages.
  • Work with people from around the world - we're a global team.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with DevOps or CI software and workflows.
  • Interest in hardware and multi-platform development.
  • Scripting or programming experience, including debugging.
  • Can-do mentality, eager to try things out.
  • Ease to take on new technologies, both open-source and internal to EA.
  • Collaboration with local and remote teams, sharing knowledge and responsibilities.
  • A degree in computing or equivalent professional experience (2 or more years)
  • As we're an international team who communicate in English, you'll need to be comfortable talking and writing about technical details in English.

  • Jenkins CI.
  • Perforce, git, GitLab.
  • vSphere / VMware.
  • Ansible, Chef; Packer; Artifactory, Chocolatey and NuGet.
