Overview

The Broadcast Technician supports the Broadcast Engineering Team collaborating and executing on a wide range of tasks.  This role is challenging, technically critical, and constantly evolving.  The Broadcast Technician will work directly with the corresponding Technical Production Manager & Senior Technical Production Manager to deliver world-class productions.

 

This is a 12-month contract position with the potential to extend.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain audio / video equipment for use during shows
  • Setup support; cameras, routing systems, audio equipment, monitors, lighting and other associated equipment
  • Setup, distribute and collect equipment for production crew, talent, guests, and players
  • Operate, track, and report equipment in online management system, including repairs, maintenance and shipments
    • Process in-bound and out-bound equipment & sanitize
    • Responsible for the processing & handling of all repair items
    • Keeps integrity of inventory control database, ensuring barcodes and serial numbers are kept accurate throughout the equipment repair process; ensures procedures are followed when equipment is returned, replaced, disposed, barcode removed, etc.
    • Routinely assess the strengths of the management system and identify areas for improvement
  • Assist with new equipment installs & maintenance; local & remote facilities including cloud 
  • Works to reduce downtime when equipment fails by quickly identifying problems and implementing solutions
  • Liaise with and work under the direction of the Technical Production Manager
  • Enable continuous learning environment to keep abreast of industry trends
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Requirements

  • Ability to manage a fluctuating workload with competing priorities in a constant pressure and deadline-driven environment
  • Must have a passion for gaming, broadcast and live production
  • Must be organized, detailed oriented, and possess a high degree of accuracy

Basic Technical Knowledge Requirements

  • Broadcast facility, truck, and cloud infrastructure and technology
  • Comprehension of audio and video standards, signal flow and troubleshooting procedures
  • Various types of audio/video signal flow (analogue XLR/TX, AES/EBU, SMPTE, Dante, AEX67, Fiber, SDI, etc.)
  • Understanding of power over cables (dry, wet, phantom power/48V, PoE)
  • Timecode & various sync types
  • Digital routing switchers and control systems, preferably Evertz & Ross Video
  • Video switchers/mixers, preferably Ross Video
  • Distribution Amplifiers, Audio/Data dis/embedders, Frame Synchronizers, Converters/Scalers, Closed-caption encoders
  • Basic computer networking skills and troubleshooting // Terminal commands, Telnet, FTP
  • Computer formats such as HDMI/DVI/VGA/DisplayPort
  • Cable termination include BNC XLR, TS, RJ-45 & Cable Management

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; BA/BS preferred or 2+ years of work experience in an office or shop environment
  • Logistical/shipping experience highly preferred
  • Component level repair capability and ability to solder proficiently preferred
  • Proficient computer skills, including Excel
  • Familiarity with broadcast equipment is a plus
  • Willing and able to travel periodically, flexibly, and internationally
  • Willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Airline travel required; possess or be willing to acquire a U.S. passport
  • Participate in requested background checks when assigned to shows that require it

Physical Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work shifts that typically last 12 - 15 hours but could extend up to 20 hours
  • Must be able to walk or stand up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel on both knees, and climb stairs frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 - 75 lbs. frequently
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs. a distance of 50 feet occasionally
  • Ability to pinch (10 lbs.) and grip (50 lbs.) related broadcast equipment
  • Must be able to maintain a position within a space 3.5 - 4 feet tall up to 1 minute occasionally
  • Ability to horizontally transfer 50 lbs. on a push-pull cart up to 50 feet
  • Ability to vertically transfer 50 lbs. on a push-pull system with upper extremities only 
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
