Position Title: Game Designer II

External Description:

Our game team is looking for a Game Designer who can create original game mechanics and new experiences for one of our beloved franchises, staying true to PopCap's values and commitment to quality. This person will be responsible for authoring content, designing and prototyping new gameplay systems, documenting design, reacting to feedback and working with other designers and disciplines to create a game that players will love and play for a decade. You will join a very collaborative bunch, bringing designs from initial concept/prototypes all the way to a finished product experience that'll be seen by millions of players across the globe. You'll get the chance to work through all stages of development, taking the full journey from concept to launch, and beyond.

What you'll do:

  • Work collaboratively to identify and create new mechanics, content, events and systems for one of PopCap's beloved franchises.
  • Author levels and additional content using a variety of tools to support both live service and new mechanics and systems.
  • Create, balance, and tune new character designs.    
  • Collaborate closely with team members across disciplines to create a compelling, high-quality player experience.
  • Provide and receive game design critiques in a constructive manner with suggestions and solutions for improvement.
  • Create design docs, drawings, diagrams, flowcharts, and any other necessary documents to communicate design functionality and vision.
  • Make tradeoffs to ship a sizable amount of content, on time, at the highest possible quality.
  • Evolve designs based on regular play testing, audience feedback and live metrics.
  • Remain current on industry trends including: new game genres, new mechanics, new game design methods.
  • Drive long-term player engagement by understanding and fulfilling player needs with the content, features systems you design for the game.

Requirements:

  • Experience with level design and character balancing
  • Passion for crafting amazing gaming experiences on mobile platforms!
  • 3+ years of game design experience within casual and/or mobile space with shipped titles.
  • Experience with freemium/F2P design, including microtransactions and social features.
  • Ability to work effectively by yourself and as a collaborator in a larger design team.
  • Technical background is a plus (fluency in tools, scripting, and programming languages).
  • Strong creative ideas and imagination, working within an overall game vision.
  • Solid understanding of gameplay mechanics and systems.
  • Creative, analytical and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to write and maintain appropriate design documentation throughout the game's life cycle.
  • Affinity for the casual games audience, and an appreciation of its different player types, motivations, needs and lifestyles.
  • Knowledge of game industry, trends, competition, platforms and market.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a team environment.
  • An organized and detail-oriented approach to design and authoring.
  • A fresh brain, ready to entertain the world with humor, fun, surprises, challenges, and delight.
