Narrative Engineer – Star Wars

 We are looking for a talented Narrative Engineer to join an established, experienced team of developers working on a AAA Star Wars title in development at Motive Vancouver.  This is an opportunity to join a veteran team and help craft the vision and execution of a compelling, innovative and immersive Star Wars experience. We are using the cutting-edge Frostbite Engine to deliver innovative Animation technologies and pushing the boundaries of player expectations.

An ideal candidate will have professional knowledge of cinematic and narrative technologies for game development. You will have general experience with skeletons, rigs, animation, lighting, cameras, audio. You will work closely with Narrative designers, Cinematic animators & your lead to help design, architect & implement major narrative systems for the product. You will work with content creators to implement features, tools, and debugging workflows.

 

Expectations:

  • Help bring the vision of the Narrative Director to life with tools & technology
  • Design and develop new content creation tools, workflow tools and general productivity tools
  • Work with your lead and the Narrative team to understand requirements and plan out functional requirements
  • Design, architect and document technical designs for Narrative systems
  • Work with Frostbite team to improve workflows for teams globally
  • Work with Animators, Designers, Lighters and Audio Artists to support Cinematic Creation
  • Investigate, Research and Develop new technology to support ambience, living worlds, and cinematics
  • Support Designers using tools and workflows with debugging tools, documentation & usability
  • Work with the Frostbite Engine and Frostbite Team to develop shareable code and interface correctly with the engine
  • Profile and optimize CPU & GPU usage in Narrative systems
  • Provide solutions that take into account multi-threading & hardware requirements

 

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience
  • 3+ years of games development experience
  • Experience with Animation features such as skeletons, rigs, animation blending a bonus
  • Experience with Cinematic tools such as Motion Builder’s Story tool
  • Experience with Data-driven Game Engines
  • Passion for Narrative in video games
  • Strong proficiency with C++
  • Experience with C# & WPF a bonus
  • Multithreaded programming and debugging experience
  • Experience with Agile development philosophies
  • Experience with Unit testing frameworks a bonus
  • Capable of responding to Code Review feedback and deliver quality Code Review feedback
  • Knowledge of source code management: Perforce is preferred

  • Demonstrates dependability and commitment to projects/tasks
