A Development Director in Rigging manages Technical artists & Technical animators, as well as other DD’s / DM’s. Rigging DDs are the keepers of the project plans and schedule and play a vital role in successfully facilitating asset & rig production, game team & central team support throughout the product life cycle, while ensuring a strong focus on quality, collaboration, and communication. They must partner closely internally, with content partners, game team and key stakeholders to ensure that they are managing all projects on time, to quality, and within budget.

Rigging is seeking am experienced DD, located in Vancouver to support production & development on some of the largest titles in the gaming industry; oversee a new development support team, as well as work with the Rigging leadership team on strategic direction for this growing team. You are a people manager whose greatest strengths are building strong relationships, collaboration, strategic thinking and strong execution. 

What the Rigging DD will do:

Leadership & People Management:

  • Builds and evolves effective team; identifies resourcing needs, provides challenges and developmental opportunities to ensure that all employees reach their potential.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with immediate team and those outside of the immediate team that influence the successful completion of the project.
  • Provides line & career management to employees within the rigging domain.
  • Maintains regular communication with project team and coordinates dependencies with external partners.
  • Participates in the hiring process to ensure qualified candidates are available to meet project requirements.
  • Foster an engaging, fulfilling and fun working environment.
  • Partners with Rigging leadership on coaching and mentoring a strong team; as well as recruiting, onboarding, and retention.

Execution:

  • Establishing and assigning task objectives from defined project goals; achieving project deliverables through managing team at a project-level.
  • Proactively assessing and mitigating risk on a project / dept. level.
  • Partnering with production to manage scope and quality.

Project management:

  • Oversees overall projects schedule based on the individual task estimates for production.
  • Partners will Production DD/DM / CRAFT Director to determine the resource requirements to meet the task requirements.
  • Establish a project / development budget, determine task dependencies, and assign tasks to team resources as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years project management or team leadership experience.
  • Education requirement University degree Bachelors or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ideally have a technical focused background.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels and organizations.
  • Experience in various project management methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
  • Some international travel will be required.
