We are looking for an accomplished Business Leader to join our Studio Leadership Team as ‘Development Director II'.

 

Job Description

 

As a Development Director-Operation, you will drive strategy, project planning and execution for a cross-functional development team to build, launch and support top-tier mobile games and live services; This is a key leadership role that involves a high level of interaction with team members, development partners, and product leadership. A key focus will be on outcomes, solving problems, and making things work (or work better).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving a portfolio of mobile live services games from concept to live, accountable for meeting milestone commitments and quality target; Including establishing development framework, reporting, risk management, resource management, and budgeting.
  • Responsible for building and leading a strong production team; oversee recruiting, onboarding, retention, coaching and mentoring staff. 
  • Ensure the team has the best organizational structure, processes, and practices that allow them to produce high quality work efficiently on time and on budget.
  • Drive efficiencies and new ways of thinking with a goal of reducing waste and increasing predictability.
  • Foster an engaging, fulfilling and fun working environment
  • Establish regular communication with team and key stakeholders to provide project status updates.
  • Create, own, and improve all development processes, including effective implementation of agile methods
  • Develop and maintain goals, budgets and plans (financial, staffing, project, spending, etc.) that improve the studio financial position and market viability 
  • Directly manage studio administrative functions and staff, leveraging external resources as necessary.
  • Negotiate and review contracts with outside vendors, partners (coordinated with corporate legal counsel)
  • Hold Project Leads accountable for delivery of milestones, challenging and supporting them as necessary toward that goal
  • Manage business relationships with external partners on all projects, including milestone discussions and delivery negotiations
  • Monitor and manage forecasts, headcount planning, hiring, spending and other financial matters to ensure studio profitability, approving expenditures accordingly
  • Improve processes throughout the studio (within and between development and operations)

 

This is a central position that will interface with all teams and all departments, so organizational and communication skills are important.  You’ll work with each of our internal department heads to develop timelines, resource projections, and budgets for each project.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years experience in the game development, media tech, consumer internet, e-commerce or related field
  • Experience managing groups of 35 personnel in the product development domain
  • Negotiation, leadership, management and strong interpersonal skills
  • Business degree preferred, or commensurate experience within the industry
  • Ability to strategically evaluate trends in the game industry
  • Open-minded and willing to learn from industry experts
  • Mastery of project management (including Agile methodologies)
  • Experience setting up and running project management tools such as JIRA or Hansoft
  • Comfortable using Excel to track, model, and analyze data
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound decision-making based on both data analysis and judgment
  • Strong negotiation, change management, and conflict resolution skills
  • High degree of initiative, takes opportunities to make improvements
  • Ownership mentality: responsible, invested in outcomes
