Position Title: Game Designer I

BioWare Austin is currently searching for a talented Cinematic Designer to translate scripted scenes into cinematics to drive engaging player experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs scripting for in-game conversations/cinematics using game development tools provided.
  • Partners with the Design Lead and Creative Director for guidance & quality assurance on all cinematics.
  • Ensures that all cinematic implementation is on schedule and of high quality.
  • Works with others on the Design team to seamlessly integrate narrative elements into the game.
  • Helps determine needed animations for key cinematic segments.

Requirements

  • Four-year post-secondary degree preferred with an emphasis in film, animation or game design
  • 3+ years of professional game design experience, one or more shipped game titles
  • In-depth technical knowledge of game engine cinematic tools
  • Experience with working on game engine tools (NWN, Source, Unreal, Unity, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of film language and the ability to build high-quality cut-scenes
  • Ability to constructively critique design and offer solutions to problems
  • Excellent communication skills; the ability to liaison between artists and programmers
  • Passion for BioWare games, story-driven RPGs, and/or pen & paper games
  • Extensive and continued playing experience with Star Wars: The Old Republic

Portfolio Requirements

  • A reel of cinematic work from shipped game titles is required.
  • Examples of cinematics built with a game engine tool
  • Examples of scripted tools related to game design and cinematics
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop storyboards (optional)
