An opportunity has opened for an Intern Taxonomist to join our Data Management team within the Global Analytics and Insights group (GAI). You will be joining our team at an exciting time where you will have a direct impact on how the organization creates and thinks about data and the information derived from it. You will be part of a diverse team who will pioneer a new epoch in Data Management at EA.

 

We are looking for a passionate student of Information Science with a strong interest in data science and information architecture. You are focused on formulating goals, and requirements collaboratively. You have studied Taxonomy development and are ready to learn how to turn your knowledge into practice. You want to help improve the organization's Information Systems and unlock the value of its data assets. You are astute and take a pragmatic approach in your work to create designs which fit today and are adaptable over time. You enjoy building things from the ground up and thrive working in a highly collaborative and diverse team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement taxonomies, thesauri and controlled vocabularies under the guidance of Information Management leads
  • Identify taxonomy requirements through research and analysis of end-user needs, content management system requirements, EA's existing content corpus, as well as soliciting and organizing input from internal stakeholders
  • Review taxonomies currently in use at EA, with an eye to refinement, alignment and consolidation resulting in suggested improvements
  • Support content modelling and taxonomy development processes and outcomes
  • Support the taxonomy governance framework across multiple business units and diverse stakeholders
  • Contribute to product roadmaps for taxonomy services in line with a broader content ecosystem strategy
  • Educate stakeholders on taxonomy processes, workflows, and implementation frameworks
  • Maintain a user oriented point of view with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Develop a project revolving around your role and responsibilities at EA resulting in a presentation where you demonstrate growth and development in the information management space

 

Required Experience

  • Currently enrolled in Library or Information Science Master's degree program, or Informatics or Information Science related Undergraduate program
  • Experience in using SQL and Python
  • Familiarity with taxonomy, thesauri and ontology standards and best practices (e.g. ANSI/NISO Z.39.19, ISO 25964, OWL, RDF and SKOS)  
  • Understanding of the principles of linked data and SPARQL
  • Understanding of metadata types, standards and best practices
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices for content modelling
  • Experience with taxonomy management software such as PoolParty or Synaptica highly desirable

 

Preferred Experience

  • A passion and knowledge of video games – theory, mechanics and game play.
  • Experience in developing content models and supporting taxonomies
  • Experience in the design and collection of taxonomy requirements, including the use of interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, business process outcome modeling, and task and workflow analysis
  • Familiarity with taxonomy governance processes and stakeholder management
  • Experience in data science or analytics, especially statistical analysis and predictive/prescriptive modeling
  • Proficiency with UML and/or Information modeling software like LucidChart or Visio
  • Confidence in communicating digitally across time zones
