Position Title: Software Engineer III

Team

EAX is a team within EA that manages several digital distribution and subscription products including Origin and EA Access. Access allows users to purchase subscriptions and games on PC and console platforms. Users can stay connected to everything Access, take their pick of all the great games in ‘The Vault’ and play as much as they want for a low monthly, and even lower annual, subscription fee. They can put upcoming EA games to the test before the release date with exclusive Play First Trials.

What you will do

  • Be the subject matter expert for Origin API Services.
  • Hands-on development delivering Java and NodeJS-based applications.
  • Troubleshoot live issues..
  • Collaborate with your Sr. Engineering peers and Technical Director in defining and disseminating a technical architecture, developer experience, publishing workflow and release pipeline.
  • Be part of a ~20 person diverse scrum team (Product Management, Project Management, Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, Operations, Live Service Support).
  • Use your knowledge of software engineering concepts to design and implement tested, reusable, and modular code.
  • Harness your desire to understand in-depth the WHY behind the functional requirements, identifying problems and creating solutions.
  • Be passionate about non-functional requirements and embody the value of these in your actions.
  • Guide the delivery of high-quality projects.
  • Be passionate for your craft. You feel ownership over everything you ship.
  • Report to the Origin Technical Director.

Skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Expertise in Java.
  • Understand object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
  • Experience with SQL and non-SQL databases such as mySQL, MongoDB, RDS, DynamoDB.
  • Experience leading small teams and mentoring other team members.
  • Experience with architecturing and building REST API services.
  • Experience with source control systems such as Perforce, Git, CVS, Visual SourceSafe, ClearCase.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux-based systems.
  • Experience writing various fidelities of technical documentation from high-level approach to detailed design.
  • Experience with dependency management, build, release and automation tools such as Maven, SBT, npm, Jenkins and Yarn.

Bonus Skills and experience

  • Working knowledge of NodeJS.
  • Experience with TechOps / infrastructure systems - Amazon Web Services, Chef, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with a modern Java framework such as Play, Spring, Dropwizard, etc.
  • Experience with a modern NodeJS framework such as Koa and Express.
  • Experience with GraphQL and Apollo server / engine.
  • Experience writing unit tests.
  • Experience with Typescript.
  • Experience with client-side web development - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
