As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in advancing our goals toward personalization intelligence, improving and curating the experiences of our players. You should be a sharp, curious, and analytical individual who has a passion for diving into data and building models to understand how players are interacting with our games. Your output will directly influence game design and user interaction to drive improved acquisition, retention, and monetization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Design, execute, and analyze algorithmic (machine learning) experiments on various touchpoints of user behavior by consulting with business stakeholders (e.g. Marketing, Live Service, Development, etc.) to gain insights regarding user flow and successful personalization design
  • Receive questions from the business and determine the experimental framework needed to answer them
  • Present analysis conclusions to business stakeholders in a clear, interpretable, and actionable manner
  • Work with large, distributed data sources to conduct analyses 
  • Provide guidance to central tech and product teams regarding data capture needs
  • Partner with Business Intelligence and Database Engineers to identify and manage data requirements to support high-quality analysis and reporting
  • Conduct effective analysis while adhering to company-wide best practices such as version control, ethics, documentation, and reproducibility
  • Communicate clearly (and as often as needed) with team members and business stakeholders.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience, preferably in gaming or other consumer-facing applications
  • A graduate degree in applied math, economics, computer science or related field. Doctorate preferred, but can be replaced by relevant work experience
  • Excellent SQL skills, including experience querying large, complex data sets on a platform such as Redshift is a plus; experience on a big data (or NoSQL) platform such as Hadoop or Splunk is a plus
  • A deep understanding of the product including how our players engage with our games, what motivates them, and what levers can be leaned on by the business to increase its success
  • Experience in data mining, machine learning, or statistical modeling
  • Experience with programmatic data analysis tools (e.g. R, Ruby, Python, Spark Scala)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at various levels of business and technical expertise, including the ability to simplify difficult technical concepts
  • A proactive, self-starter spirit and ability to work both independently and on a team without micromanagement.
