The Challenge Ahead

Your role as part of Global Analytics and Insights Technology (GAIT) will be to build last-mile global analytics and reporting solutions that depict player evolution year-over-year in titles such as Apex Legends, Battlefield, and Star Wars Battlefront.

You will help build a platform to process petabytes of data into pipelines for user-facing environments and collaboratively compete for the industry-leading data program – all while serving needs of teams on the cutting edge of game development using DevOps methodologies.

What a Data Engineer does at EA

• Build and deploy data sets to support reporting analytics and exploratory analysis.
• Contribute to technical design and ongoing development of our core data infrastructure and ETL framework, and help drive continuous improvement thereof.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Manage testing and bug fixes and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with data architects, modelers and other team members on project goals.

What skills does the next great Data Engineer bring

• Solid experience using Python and at least some flavour of SQL.
• Advanced experience with data modelling, relational databases and complex SQL queries.
• Experience building and optimizing data pipelines and dealing with unstructured datasets.
• Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS and GCP.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data sources and processes to answer specific questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Comfortable debugging problems and issues with little supervisors input.
• Excellent ability to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks without routine supervision.

What additional skills would be an advantage

• Familiarity with cloud-native databases – we use Snowflake.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and Oozie.
• Previous working experience with big data tools like HDFS, Hive and Presto.
• Hands on experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Docker.
• Not afraid using the command-line and working with servers.
