Position Title: Software Engineer III

External Description:

Online Security Engineer

Electronic Arts is looking for an experienced server platform security engineer to help audit, maintain, and harden our applications and infrastructure, improving the reliability of our systems as we quickly grow. Your knowledge of security and server tools, in combination with your experience in application security, ethical hacking/pen testing, and secure application design will make you successful in this role. In addition, your ability to understand traffic patterns and features to expose potential and ‘in the wild’ exploits will allow you to excel.

We are looking for engineers that understand that simplicity and reliability are aspects of a system that can’t be tacked on but are carefully calculated with every decision made.

If you were to join Electronic Arts, here are the kinds of things you would do over the course of a typical week:

  • Work with the development team to establish--and execute on--a short- and long-term security roadmap.
  • Utilize existing tools and create new ones that perform analysis of user behavior based on user logs and telemetry.
  • White-boarding with your team to design a fix for a critical problem, then executing on the solution.
  • Work on real world real gamer facing issues in the live environment.
  • Provide support to the operations staff in troubleshooting and solving production issues.
  • Implement features and systems to provide strong account security for players.

Here are things that we consider critical to being a server platform security engineer:

  • You have 4 or more years of progressively complex related experience securing SaaS (Software as a Service) applications.
  • Excellent C++ programming skills.
  • Solid competency with MySQL.
  • You have a curiosity about how things work (and how to break them).
  • Able to perform analysis of user behavior from application and telemetry logs.
  • Understanding feature level exploits and participate in the design process, preempting potential exploits and security loopholes before they occur in the wild.
  • Able to design and implement software changes to close known exploits and defensively prevent potential future issues.
  • You’ve been writing applications (server based) for a while and can point to things you’ve worked on.
  • You have in-depth expertise of which you use to develop high volume transaction software that is robust, scalable and maintainable.
  • You are a strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you.
  • You know how to build reliable and safe distributed systems and understand the trade-offs made when engineering a feature.
  • Occasional off-hours support for development needs and support of the live environment helping to ensure our gamers experience is always world class.

There are a few extra things that would lift you up a couple of notches in our eyes:

  • Prior experience with or knowledge of large scale, high volume systems.
  • Experience in designing and developing applications where security is paramount and issues (XSS, SQL Injection, etc.) are addressed at the programming and design level.
  • Academic background in computer science (BSc or MSc).
  • Experience with internet commerce and trading.
  • Experience designing and developing scalable systems.
