You will utilise your outstanding engineering skills, communications capabilities, and analytical problem-solving skills in delivering results through collaboration with our EA Security leadership team, IT and Digital Platform teams, and Game Studios. This position reports to the Director of Incident Response (IR) Operations in the EA Security group.

What you will do as a Security Detections Lead at EA:

You’ll make EA a secure place to work and build amazing games. You will be a key member of the Incident Response Threat Intelligence Unit and report into EA’s Global Security Incident Response team (GSIRT)

The mission of this role will be to develop and lead a world class detections and alerts program at EA. This role will work closely with specialists encompassing Threat Intelligence, red/purple team, IR operations, IR developers, the Security Operations Centre and intelligence partners from video game and other industries.

This role will be the primary escalation point for the creation and research of detections for EA incident response and SOC monitoring tools. This includes detection signatures such as Elastic Watcher, YARA, EDR Detections, IDS and other IR platforms. This role will also serve as a specialist for evaluating technical solutions, helping engineers/Ops staff to deploy them, and ensuring that we have an effective way to gain visibility into possible attacker behavior whilst also making our alerts and operations efficient and effective for our security analysts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Researching and writing detections for Elastic Watcher, YARA, EDR Detections, IDS and other IR platforms.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of attacker behavior and how best to gain visibility using the solutions in-play at EA, so that we can adjust to changing internal and external drivers.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience researching and writing detections and alerts for a range of incident response and monitoring tools e.g. Yara, Elastic etc.
  • Hands on Elastic.io Watcher (JSON based rules) experience or previous software developer and scripting experience.
  • An awareness of the Mitre ATT&CK Framework (used to identify TTPs that are most relevant to EA and align the SIEM detection and collection requirements).
  • Data analysis experience; you would be analysing large volumes of data to find unusual activity and performing necessary research/analysis to spot gaps in current visibility.
  • Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
  • Be able to work with field teams to understand visibility gaps and work to close those caps.
  • An inquisitive and logical mindset would probably excel in this role.
  • Experience of cyber-attack analysis would also be a strong benefit in this role but is not mandatory.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel to other EA locations as necessary.
  • Excellent overall communications, presentation, facilitation and diplomacy skills.
  • Problem solving skills, ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professionalism in dealing with all levels of management, staff and vendors.
  • Comfortable with ambiguous problems and independently developing strategy and solutions.
