Position Title: Sr Game Designer

External Description:

We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead Metagame Designer to join an established, experienced team of developers working on a AAA Star Wars title in development at Motive Vancouver.  This is an opportunity to join a veteran team and help craft the vision and execution of a compelling, innovative and immersive Star Wars experience.  You will act as a guiding creative force for the game across the studio and development team, providing vision as well as making sure that the experience delivers on core design philosophies, quality and innovation.

 

Role: Partner with the project’s creative leadership to define and drive the execution of a unique and compelling Metagame. You will be responsible for defining the vision for this area, while also ensuring its consistency with the wider project vision and Star Wars brand. In this role, you will also be responsible for managing, mentoring and guiding the Metagame team to deliver on this vision to the highest level of quality and fun.

 

Expectations:

  • Partner with various key creative, production and technical leads to define a strong and exciting vision for the Metagame.
  • Champion the vision for the Metagame within the team.
  • Lead the design, execution and tuning of all Metagame experiences.
  • Work with the Narrative team to ensure that all Metagame experiences support and enhance the game’s underlying lore, story, and central fantasy.
  • Work with the World team to ensure compelling integration of all Metagame features, with a focus on layout, pacing, gating, and progression.
  • Work with the Gameplay team to ensure that all Metagame features make the best possible use of the game’s core mechanics and moment-to-moment gameplay.
  • Work with the game’s Live Service leads to ensure that the Metagame supports and enhances the game’s post-launch expansion.
  • Drive the balancing and tuning of all Metagame features and economies based on focus testing, metrics, telemetry and other feedback.
  • Actively communicate progress, risks and challenges to key stakeholders across the team


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience working on AAA action or RPG titles
  • 2+ shipped titles in a role encompassing high-level game structure, mission/quest progression, gameplay activities, and in-world economies
  • Proven ability to set direction and successfully lead a team to deliver AAA quality experiences
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong sense of humour and a positive, collaborative, team-centric mentality
  • Comfortable working within a large, cross-disciplinary team
  • Willingness to iterate and adapt designs
  • In-depth knowledge of industry trends in AAA action games
  • Passion for games and gaming
