The Challenge Ahead:  

The Manager, Data Center Operations will manage a team of local data center engineers to support the infrastructure hosting EA’s online games and services. This role will also be responsible for managing the data center vendors and suppliers to ensure SLAs and deliverables are being met to support successful game launches and operational readiness. This role is also responsible for working with internal and external project and technology teams to ensure projects implemented in the data centers are engineered with operations in mind. Candidates with strong people, change, incident, project, and vendor management skills are key for this role to be successful.

What a Manager, Data Center Operations does at EA:

  • Management of a team of 3+ Data Center Engineers by providing leadership, coaching, training, and mentorship and overall development of the employees.
  • Develop and implement departmental procedures, standards, goals, objectives, policies and processes to ensure consistent delivery of supported services. Develop and ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are being met.
  • Ensure staff provides timely diagnosis of problems and events and provides follow-up or escalations when necessary. Acts as liaison to other departments to resolve issues when necessary.
  • Provide scheduling to cover 24/7 operations. Participate by being part of an on-call rotation for data center incident escalations. Ready to respond to data center related incidents to provide leadership and support.
  • Metrics driven. Collects and analyzes data to form trends or utilization metrics to aid providing feedback to service providers or vendors about potential defects or SLA breaches.
  • Review and approve all change tickets requiring data center support or affecting data center infrastructure. Be an active voice in the Change Advisory Board to review and approval of all Method of Procedures (MOPs) for maintenance and one-time/emergency repair requests.
  • Work with internal/external auditors to ensure data centers in scope are compliant with SOX or PCI. Review and update relevant security policy and procedure documentations to ensure they are in line with current operations.
  • Ensure proper tools, maintenance and support agreements are in place for the engineers to identify, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair hardware in a safe manner. Be innovative at driving automation where applicable and beneficial to operations.
  • Manage provisioning of data center infrastructure including power, cross connects, installation and decommissioning of hardware. Participate or lead projects that involves data center operations to provide knowledge, resourcing and understanding of support needs.
  • Source and manage vendors providing logistics, parts, power installation, cabling or staff augmentation to support the day to day operations. Responsible for vendor management and performance, including data center providers. 

The next great EA Manager, Data Center Operations also needs:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited education institution and 4+ years’ experience in management of a data center or large technology infrastructure supporting online services
  • Strong leadership, people management and interpersonal skills. Ability to build partnership and work collaboratively with internally and external teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, issues, concepts and solutions to all levels of the organization, including partners and executive leadership
  • Must possess strong project management skills and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while keeping management informed
  • Must have advanced understanding of datacenter infrastructure environment and components like power, cooling, rack space, PUE, networking, UPS, etc., knowledge of automation tools
  • Experience in managing environments that support a broad range of technologies including Windows Servers, Linux, routers, switches, DDoS mitigation appliances, firewalls, load balancers, storage solutions, etc
  • Effective incident resolution and structured problem solving methodology.  Ability to mitigate complex issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Must have vendor and budget management experience
  • Must be able to function effectively under pressure in environments of rapid change and conflicting demands and crisis management
  • Good understanding of security best practices and audit processes 
  • Experience working as part of an international organization.
  • Well-rounded understanding of technology, operations and business processes
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
