Engineering Manager - DRE

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join the Development and Release Engineering – Infrastructure Engineering team (DRE-IE).

DRE are EA’s global automation specialists. We are a team of around 100 staff based in EA studios around the world. We pride ourselves on working closely with our internal customers (EA's game, engine, product, and content teams) and serve them by providing superior services related to Build & Test Automation, Continuous Integration, Metrics Reporting, and Virtual Infrastructure.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the Infrastructure Engineering (IE) team worldwide.  The team is primarily located in Vancouver, Orlando and Romania.  The IE team is focused on providing central Infrastructure services to our team members embedded with the development teams and working with EA security to make sure that our infrastructure and systems are secure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Management
  • Identifying the business needs for the IE team and ensuring that the teams delivers
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key DRE stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong team communication and collaboration across locations.
  • Service Management
  • Ensure that the existing services we provide meet (at a minimum) our customers’ expectations, while making sure that the team members can maintain a good work-life balance.
  • Prepare annual hardware forecasts (which account for growth and title plan changes) for IT budgeting purposes
  • Work with stakeholders and finance to provide capacity planning and services growth strategy for the medium and long term.
  • Manage Agile/Scrum process.
  • Track Team Objectives and Key Performance Indicators and take remedial actions.
  • Create & distribute regular reports and updates on team’s activities.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Ability to lead and direct the team on IT Infrastructure and security.
  • Ability to do hands-on work, although expectation is this is primarily a leadership role.
  • Work with DRE Technical leadership to ensure alignment on technical strategy.
  • People Management
  • Creating and driving Career Development plans for the team.
  • Holding regular 1:1 meetings to discuss performance and support growth.
  • Organizing and running Quarterly and Annual reviews.

Desired Skills

  • 5+ years’ experience of hands-on IT infrastructure and security
  • Experience managing IT/Software Engineers
  • Experience managing a team and delivering what the business needs
  • Experience managing remote teams
  • Strong teamwork skills, and ability to take ownership and work independently
  • Ability to run meetings involving our team as well as internal customers and external teams 
  • Experience with Agile processes
  • Experience with gaming development or operations
  • Experience with source-control (e.g. Perforce, Git), and build pipelines (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Experience with OO (e.g. Java) and scripting languages (e.g. Ruby, Python)
  • Excellent electronic communication skills (e-mail, IM, etc.)
  • Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
