As a Development Manager (DM), you’ll primarily drive planning and execution for projects on a cross-functional development team to build and ship new content, features, games and site improvements.

This is a leadership role that involves a high level of interaction with team members, peers, and product leadership. DM’s focus on outcomes, solving problems and making things work (or work better). You’ll develop, maintain, and drive the project schedule from start to finish while making sure the path is clear of obstacles for your team.

You’ll be accountable for leading the team to meet milestones and quality targets, creating and improving processes, coordinating with support departments across the company, tracking and recording project data including KPIs and risks, while seeking out and applying knowledge to improve the organization.

You’ll also be a part of a production team, that aims to learn and grow while executing on all our goals, as individuals and as a team.

As a Development Manager, your responsibilities include:

Managing the project:
• Create project schedules that maximize feature quality and scope within resource, financial, and development partner constraints
• Anticipate bottlenecks and risks, provide management escalation, project prioritization, make tradeoffs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints, and drive the process forward
• Validate and track task length, skill requirement, and dependencies along with team velocity
• Drive execution from concept to live (estimates, tasks, change requests, bugs)
• Act as scrum master for a cross-functional development team(s)

Building and leading the team:
• Provide strong leadership for the team, inspire and motivate the team through personal example, enthusiasm, integrity, and dedication
• Keep the team informed of the overall schedule and changes
• Train the team on best practices, processes, and standards as needed
• Hold the team accountable for its commitments
• Evaluate individual performance and potential of team members, provide appropriate recognition and constructive feedback

Working as part of a team:
• Manage stakeholder communication and requirements
• Form close working relationships with discipline leads
• Establish trust and credibility with team Producer as well as studio leadership
• Solve problems, balance priorities, and find creative solutions that achieve results
• Identify, assign, and track development and organizational issues to completion
• Coordinate dependencies with external parties across the company

Be the voice:
• Report status at regular intervals, escalate urgent issues in a timely manner
• Be a proactive disruptor.  Get involved.  Look for opportunities to make a difference
• Participate in discussions with studio leadership
• Participate in the hiring of new team members=

If you’re interested in this role, you’ll need these skills or experiences:
• 2 + years project management or team leadership experience (preferably in game development)
• A solid foundation in project management (Both methodology and tools such as JIRA & Hansoft)
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated experience in building relationships and working with broad cross-functional teams
• Sound decision-making based on analysis and judgment
• Effective communication skills across all levels of an organization
• Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills

Assets
• Game development experience (Casual gaming or mobile gaming preferred)
• Familiarity with PopCap and EA’s mobile products
• Project management certifications or training
