DICE (EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment), the award-winning developer based in Stockholm, Sweden, is best known for creating the phenomenally successful Battlefield franchise with the widely acclaimed Battlefield 1 being the latest installment. We are also the home of Star Wars Battlefront and Mirrors Edge.

 

DICE is looking for a Character Artist that are responsible for seeking out and understanding the art direction and the overall vision of the game – and to ask if something is missing or is unclear. They are also responsible for understanding and for taking in to account how their tasks fits into the big picture when planning, prioritizing and estimating their work. On a project the Character Artists could be responsible to implement Style & Tone for all characters, own project planning and budgets.

 

Work task examples:

 

  • Reference gathering
  • Working with the concept team to create character concepts
  • Drive and own Style and Tone for characters on a project
  • Shader and animation setup
  • Visual tweaks both on 3D meshes and 2D textures
  • Technical tweaks on shaders, 3D mesh and 2D textures
  • Character renders
  • Photo shoots
  • Lowpoly + highpoly character modeling.
  • Texturing
  • Implement 3D objects to Game Engine
  • Working with outsourcing partners
  • Bugfixing

 

What skills does DICE look for?

 

Essential Skills:

  • Character modeling
  1. Highres character sculpting, (ZBrush, Mudbox)
  2. Lowpoly gamemesh modeling, including UVs, (Topogun, Maya)
  3. Texture baking and editing (Photoshop, Mari, XNormal)

 

  • General
  1. Good anatomy understanding
  2. Experience and understanding of highpoly to lowpoly workflows
  3. Skinning/rigging knowledge and understanding
  4. Realtime shader knowledge and experience
  5. Basic knowledge in photography
  6. Experience with 3D scanning workflows

 

Additional Skills:

  • Life Drawing
  • Lighting and composition skills
  • Basic knowledge in photography
  • Experience with 3D scanning workflows
