QE Development Director Role 

The Team 

Step into the world of Quality Verification Engineering, this group at EA has one vision: enable predictable development by driving Quality ‘by Design’. What does this mean? Stronger and cleaner code, robust and reliable tools, and progressive and innovative processes that push our development teams and our games to new heights.  

The Development Director works with a variety of groups by being the interface between Quality Verification Engineering and the game teams. They provide a consistent and productive team of Quality Verification Engineers to the teams that need them. They will also work with other Development Managers and Directors to create a consistent approach to Quality Verification Engineering within EA. 

Ultimately, the Development Director helps ensure a successful project release by utilizing tools in software project management to help their team meet deadlines, prioritize effectively and face challenges with ingenuity and innovation. 

What the Development Director Will Achieve at EA 

Team Direction 

  • As the process driver for the individual contributors, the Development Director will guide the agile based software development lifecycle for the Quality Verification Engineering team. This will include coordinating appropriate meetings (sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, retrospectives) as required based on the SDLC in play (Scrum, Scrumban, or Kanban). 
  • The Development Director will also be responsible for ensuring that data in project software tools is consistently updated; these tools may include Jira, DevTrack, Hansoft, Confluence, Sharepoint and Project.  
  • The Development Director will also support people management by ensuring the team feels motivated, inspired and clear on their responsibilities and impact. This may include performing day to day team direction and working with the reporting manager during staff evaluations. 

Project Planning 

  • The Development Director will be responsible for defining the detailed plan for any given quarter. Prior to the initiation of the quarter, they will carry out a detailed analysis of the development project plan and work out appropriate project milestones with stakeholders. These milestones will include specific targets that must be met by certain dates for project success, and early warning indicators of project success or failure. 

Project Tracking 

  • Every project needs to be tracked while it is in flight. The Development Director will perform this duty which will include; tracking, and evaluating and assessing risks to the project. They must be able to prioritize when milestone deadlines are a concern, manage and mitigate risks, and plan for contingencies. 

Project Reporting 

  • Liaising with multiple stakeholders, the Development Director will be a master at communicating project status on a regular cadence and in a variety of formats. This will include detailed project updates, reports and presenting to teams. They will also be responsible for regularly validating that the information communicated, the cadence and the report format meet the needs of all stakeholders. Information will be pulled from a variety of sources to compile the reports and the focus should always be on supplying accurate information at the right level of granularity. 

What you bring to EA: 

Required:  

  • Knowledge of Agile Scrum and Lean Kanban  
  • Project Management Professional (PMI) Certification 
  • Knowledge of Jira and Confluence 
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint) 
  • 5+ Years of Experience Leading Teams.
  • A Passion for Continuous Improvement

  • PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) 
  • Scrum Master Certification (PSM, CSM)
  • MS Office 365 Tools (Sway, Planner)
