Position: Studio Technical Director

 

We are looking for a Studio Technical Director for our EA PopCap Shanghai Studio.

As a key member of the studio, you need to have a strong mix of technical and management experience of game industry. The rich mobile experience will be a preference. As the studio TD, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the project TDs to help solve the technical issues, drive and support best practices and help to build the technical visions for the studio’s games and services.

You will lead the engineer team and tech ops team across the studio.  It is important for you to define and build the engineering culture that crosses the function boundaries. You will need to keep communicate and feedback the team, help to bring in the technical experience and experts to drive the realization of the tech visions.

As a studio TD, you will become the technical contact point of the studio, for both internal and external. You need to drive both internal and 3rd parties to close the gaps between teams.

You will need to identify and manage the overall technical risks for the studio, to support the products shipping and live operating on time and on quality.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

- Recruit and retain the talents to keep growing the engineer team for the studio.

- Manage the tech ops team to support the live operation for the live products.

- Recruit, coach and mentor the project TDs.

- Responsible for technical quality for all the studio products.

- Oversee the technical development and approve for the key tech decisions.

- Work with project TDs to identify risks and make mitigation plans.

- Champion quality and performance. Define uncompromising target metrics and create processes and culture to exceed them.

- Define and enforce the development standards and best practices across the whole studio.

- Cooperate with other function leads to manage the changes.

- Help to build the good reputation in EA studios and help to extend the influence of the studio.

- Communicate technical architecture, strategy, details, and status to non-technical leads.

- Scouts for and evaluates new technology and tools as opportunities for innovation and development excellence.

 

Required Skills

 

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or equivalent training and professional experience.

- 10 years+ years of software development including 3+ years in key leadership positions.

- Experience managing engineer teams.

- Effective conflict management skills.

- Broad knowledge and experience on game technical both client and server side.

- Experience on balancing technical, team, product and business requirements.

- Successfully launched the mobile game and operated the live services.

- Excellent communication and documentation skills in English.

- Self-motivated and problem solving oriented.
