Position Title: Senior Technical Artist

The Sr. Technical Artist is a bridge between the artists and engineers in developing solutions for our mobile first-person shooter. You are considered part of the art team and will work closely with artists, engineers, and the techart team. The main responsibilities include supporting animation/rigging, art production workflows, tools, pipelines, asset optimization/integration. The Sr. Technical Artist will assume ownership over any technical issues that arise and drive them to resolution. You can be from an Art, Animation, Game Design, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science background, however, you must demonstrate a comfort level in working with both creative and technical tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with other tech artists to design, author, deploy, and maintain tools, workflows to improve production efficiency for our mobile first person shooter.
  • Become a partner for animators and help identify tools and techniques to improve the animation workflow.
  • Prepare assets for export from Maya and import into UE4, ensuring that they work within technical constraints.
  • Understand and communicate asset optimization techniques to help improve art assets so they are more efficient yet maintain visual quality across a variety of mobile devices.
  • Work with other technical artists and engineers to identify art-pipeline optimizations and to create technical benchmarks to be used in production.
  • Implement technical art features with the help of the programming team.
  • Offer technical support to the art team in day-by-day production issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Share best-practices and new tools with the art team.
  • Define and estimate tasks in a well-organized manner.
  • Work and collaborate with the essential client team members (Art, Engineering, Production).

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of cinematic/games production experience. You have completed more than 2 AAA or mobile games.
  • An expert level understanding of UE4, blueprints, animation blueprints, blendspaces, sockets, state machines.
  • Expert knowledge of Maya, and familiarity with animation and rigging.
  • Proficient scripting/programming in Python and C++.
  • Understand asset optimization challenges/techniques.
  • Ability to communicate with different audiences: artists, engineers, managers.
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations.
  • An avid gamer is a plus.
