What a Character Director does at Criterion:

We’re looking for a Character Director to work collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, creative and cross-discipline team to provide the next generation of believable and relatable characters.

We need your experience, passion, communication and collaboration to create amazing Characters. Working with Concept, Rigging, Animation and Narrative on creative and technical challenges; defining goals with the Production team while inspiring Character artists inside and outside the studio.

You will report to the Art Director and lead a team of Character Artists. You will be part of a team that works collaboratively in an iterative design process; breaking down deliverables; sharing regular updates and delivering on commitments.

A Character Director needs:

  • Experience leading teams on multiple shipped AAA titles on current generation platforms.
  • Expert understanding of anatomy, costume and characterisation.
  • Expertise in real-time character creation workflows, including new trends.
  • Experience providing creative briefs, reference, style guides, visual targets and prototypes.
  • Experience mentoring, providing feedback and offering guidance on techniques.
  • Experience working collaboratively in an iterative design process.
  • Passion and desire to make the best characters and promote character art.
