Position Title: Animator 2

External Description:

SENIOR GAMEPLAY ANIMATOR

Primary responsibilities

  • Work with the Animation Director to establish visual targets and help establish the animation styles for all of the characters in the game
  • Create in-game animations that set the style and quality benchmark for the project
  • Help guide the game-play animation team towards improvements for main player and NPC related animations
  • Work with the Senior Technical Animator and animation-focused Engineers to ensure that all character motions appear as dynamic and fluent as possible (smooth transitions, natural weight shifts, variety and depth)
  • Help plan the gameplay related animation workloads for the project in a proficient and manner
  • Help ensure that the flow between game-play and cinematics appears as seamless as possible
  • Work with Technical Artist’s/Animator’s and Engineers to manage and solve any technical problems that arise with both 1st and 3rd party tools and software
  • Problem identification and forging solutions
  • Help establish efficient pipelines and procedures

Required experience

  • At least 5 years of experience working on AAA console games in a senior/principal capacity
  • Have experience working on at least one AAA action adventure title
  • Develop key-frame characters at an advanced level and create performances that use a more exaggerated and expressive style
  • Experience animating characters that require more advanced/dynamic locomotion systems
  • Experience working on a project that involves melee combat
  • Experience animating with squash and stretch techniques in either film, television or games
  • Have experience using mocap as a foundation for character performances and motion editing to achieve different styles
  • A high level of proficiency working with Maya
  • Experience mentoring other animators
  • Experience working closely with designers and engineers; brainstorming > fleshing out mechanics > iterating on the results in the engine
  • Identify issues and help manage and resolve them
  • Have a very positive outlook and an approachable persona

Beneficial experience

  • Experience working with advanced facial animation rigs that use blend-shapes or pose space deformation – and joints
  • Experience using proprietary animation/creation tools like Unreal and Unity – particularly; working with state-graphs
  • Understand cinematography and experience animating cameras
  • Experience working with Motion Builder
  • Experience working with Jira (or similar)
  • A keen gamer, with experience playing many of the more recognized action adventure titles
