Job Description

We are seeking an embedded Software Engineer in Site Reliability Engineering. The EAX embedded SRE is primarily responsible for maintaining a highly technical and professional relationship within a cross functional team during all phases of the delivery and service lifecycles. From design, build-out, deployment, to ongoing service support and maintenance, the embedded SRE is expected to drive their cross-functional team in best of breed delivery, and act as an ambassador for the overall SRE function.

The other side of this role is working with the central SRE team in developing automation tools and code to support the requirements of the delivery team this position will be embedded on. This means that effective communication skills, and the ability to articulate requirements in epic/story format are crucial.

  • The successful software engineer must be familiar with the SRE concepts and philosophies and should ideally be familiar with the Google books on the topic.
  • Demonstrable hands on experience should include parts of the list below:  
    • Software development experience, preferably using java, python or ruby. Ideally several years of experience in this field.
    • Some Linux system and container administration experience, ideally including some of chef, docker, kubernetes, istio or other service mesh implementations.
    • Continuous delivery process and practice. Jenkins or bamboo knowledge, artifactory, maven, sbt, version control (git or p4), CI/CD pipelines
    • A high level of knowledge in any of Java, Java based APIs, Scala, C++, Nginx, Apache Tomcat, the Play Framework 
    • Experience with Hashicorp tools such as Consul, Vault and Packer.
    • Well versed in software development and software engineering, scrum methodology, and breaking up and assigning work
    • Experience with AWS APIs across a wide breadth of AWS services. 
    • Monitoring, reporting & alerting using leading tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, etc. Splunk/ELK knowledge also beneficial.
    • Strong application process flow and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Work to ensure a solid security posture throughout Application Development, SRE and Live Services Operations.
  • Solid understanding of software configuration management and release management
  • High levels of software engineering literacy and communication skills
  • Some working knowledge of operational best practice across ITIL disciplines; and implementing these in a light-touch manner. 
  • Experience creating and maintaining excellent technical documentation for internal and external consumption.

Nice to haves

  • Experience managing a CDN such as Akamai or Cloudfront.
  • Strong networking knowledge at layers 2 thru 7, loadbalancing, dns, firewalls.
  • Delivering applications using RDBMS and NoSQL technologies
