Position Title: Senior Manager, Accounting (IC)

External Description:

OVERVIEW

  • Work collaboratively with business and finance partners to determine and provide the necessary policies, procedures and support for digital and other revenue initiatives
  • Be responsible for various internal projects as assigned and for identifying & implementing improvements to policies and processes
  • Review contracts and initiatives to ensure compliance with EA Policies and GAAP Revenue Accounting Standard (ASC 606)
  • Supervise planning and review of key accounting assumptions & estimates
  • Responsible for fiscal close revenue reporting and ad-hoc analysis

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Policies & Procedures

  • Develop and apply consistent revenue recognition policies and procedures for the various sources of revenue & complex transactions associated with EA’s digital business
  • Leads policy discussions and establishes, maintains, and provides training for revenue policies and procedures for revenue transactions
  • Document financial and accounting conclusions related to various revenue transactions
  • Monitor emerging changes in the industry and digital business to identify transactions that may require unique revenue recognition requirements or non-standard processes
  • Establish correct accounting and deferral rules that are applied to the respective transactions
  • Supervise quarterly review of upcoming projects by means of studio reviews to ensure correct accounting deferral rules and correct item setups for bundle offers
  • Support compliance for significant accounting assumptions & estimates that drive GAAP revenue recognition – such as estimated offering period, extra content offering period and valuation of performance obligations
  • Research and understand complex & intermediate technical details, then interpret and present in lay terms to non-technical finance and other business partners

Review of Contracts & Business Models

  • Review and interpret intermediate to complex revenue contracts and transactions to determine proper accounting in accordance with Company’s policies and GAAP
  • Special emphasis on being able to proactively work with business partners to identify contract clauses that impact financial reporting, accounting implications and operational processes and provide recommendations and alternatives for such complex clauses

Process

  • Implement systems and processes to support various digital transactions, non-software arrangements and advertising business
  • Review business strategy for certain digital initiatives, non-software and advertising business and guide business partner decisions based on operational and financial reporting needs
  • Identifies end to end business processing needs and risks associated with various initiatives
  • Participate in cross functional-group projects designed to improve and enhance digital revenue transaction processes and systems
  • Coordinate effort with order to cash processing team to ensure timely and accurate recording of digital revenue transactions

Revenue Reporting

  • Responsible for key internal controls related to revenue recognition for digital revenue transactions working with global audit department to design, document and maintain internal controls for SOX compliance
  • Review and prepare financial close revenue & deferred revenue reporting schedules (Management Reporting and GAAP) for internal and external reporting
  • Participate and lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial reviews with internal management and external auditors
  • Reviews and approves forecasted GAAP numbers for purposes of internal reporting as well as guidance setting for external investors
  • Participate and lead SOX control reviews with global audit and external auditors
  • Work with senior executives to perform various end-of-quarter reports, such as, revenue fluctuation analysis, title analysis and other ad-hoc analyses

Special Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in US GAAP – ASC 606, financial statement audits, accounting, excel, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) reporting.
  • Ability to present in front of Senior Executives
  • Communicate well with finance and non-finance team members
  • Summarize and document technical accounting assessments as an executive summary
